Re: Hills
Stop wondering - don't have any! They will cause you all SORTS of operational problems, both for yourself and for potential visitors. Try and re-organise your line so you eliminate them - you'll enjoy it far more!SherpaPhil:73354 wrote:About to start track laying & was wondering about gradients.............

I recently visited this railway
http://www.yorkshire.16mm.org.uk/WhiteR ... ilway.html
Which has a 1in25 gradient substained for 25 yards. A RC loco ran for 30mins with a nice load easily, and apperntly the max for something like a roundhouse Katie is about 7kg! Mannual also ran, which also went fine, just need to be on your toes a bit more just in case.

my garden is approx 20ft square ish and the difference in height between the top and bottom of garden is approx 1ft. I dont think i have ever had any disasters with mine or any visiting locos. It makes operating more challenging and u do need radio control. I also have 3 millies which dont have problems. Chuff pipes make locos sound great when their pulling heavy trains up the hills. Have a look on you tube under PVLR.
It is not going up that is the problem ... it is coming down.

Gradients are fun! I am the kind of 16miller that likes to drive my locos rather than set them off & watch, so I prefer gradients. Some prefer to sit back & relax on a flat setup. I have a monster grade on the line, most stuff gets up & down it fine with long trains.
Anyway stop faffing about Phil & get yourself over here (subject to family & work shifts of course!)

Tommy Dodd may have an ARS key but I have a TASS button & a Rope Ladder, just like pirates, except the TASS button bit.
