Interesting loco works plate

Post by Gremlin » Sun Jul 22, 2012 6:21 pm

I bought this today at one of those big outdoor antique fairs
Turns out to be quite interesting. I should have had the 1916 WD one too, forget the loco number now.

HE 779 is Holy War, which lives at the Bala Lake Railway.

I wonder if original or a copy. The seller said he bought a load of a chap that's had them for years, used to be invloved with the scrapping. They all looked old, oily etc.

It'll be a copy I'm afraid, we trawl the stands at the steam rallies and there's usually more Hunslet plates on sale than Hunslets built

I've not come accross them before, I'll clean it up, will be nice in the workshop anyway.

Could you tell me the number of the WD plate that was for sale?

If it is 1215, there are now unfortunately many copies are for sale. A chap in Lincolnshire purchased an "official" replica from the owning society, and has since been selling numerous copies, on ebay and antique fairs and steam rallies. Some copies are even in brass, the original of course was cast iron.

Sorry I can't remember. There was also a Baldwin WD and a PLANET one that looked very nice. I didn't know there was a racket in these things. Glad I only bought the one.

I have exactly the same plate, It now hangs on the wall. They are copies as said, I got mine for £7 but once painted up looks quite good.

I think Steve Warrington did a copy off of one of these copies a few years back too.
