7/8ths tinplate skip

Just completed this one. It's made from tinplate from the design available from http://tinplategirl.com/

Ignore that fact that the skip is not centered on the frame - I got a bit eager when nearing completion and got my measurements screwed up.

Since I'm currently jobless I plan to make a few to sell. I'm also working on a scaled down version with a few modifications for 16mm. I will make tooling for that so I can build them in batches.

PS: Shameless plug time! As mentioned I'm currently unemployed and am starting up my own part time business. I will have a laser cutter soon so will resume the work on the budget line of kits; simple flat car and electric loco. There is also a steam engine in the works but that is a long way off as I don't have enough money to invest up front and have to buy parts as and when I can afford them. Expect a webshop to appear before too long with items like steel wheels, oilite bearings, axles, gas filler valves, ceramic burner material, brass gears, tinplate sheet etc.

That sounds like a great idea, illike it and if you have good quality control and a decent price you will quckly build a name for products.

Will your laser cutter cut metal or is it just for wood?

It's just a 60W laser that will cut wood and plastics. Metal cutting lasers are big and very, very expensive.

Will you take bits for cutting in wood if a pre prepared Cad drawing has been produced?

I doubt it. I have offered a cutting service in the past but it is a waste of time. Most people are not capable of making a CAD drawing to the correct spec so I end up spending a lot of time correcting them.

Making files for use on a laser is a bit different. I have received excellent drawings from talented draughtsmen that still required a lot of work.
