Are you thinking of Bagnall 1497 of 1896? Built to 750mm gauge for Collier Antieres & Co. in Brazil and named Treze de Maio, regauged to 2'3" for the Plynlimon & Hafan and renamed Talybont, finally regauged to 1'11.5" for the VoR and renamed Rheidol?

Ok then...

I was named after a very famous standard guage locomotive. I worked in a quarry and was the third locomotive delivered there. After WWII, I was experimentally rebuilt with a vertical boiler but this was not a success and I was subsequently scrapped. However, three other locomotives which worked at the same location survive today.

What am I?

Offhand the only railway that springs to mind using former horse-tram vehicles was the Criggion branch of the Shropshire and Montgomeryshire, but the loco used on that job was Gazelle AFAIK.
