That is actually a fair point. Most of my experience is with Roundhouse engines, and lovely as they are it must be said they are all very similar to drive. All the same, I think that on balance that's a price worth paying for consistent, reliable running - unlike John, I'm not the kind of garden railwayman who likes to spend hours in the workshop trying to get things to work, I'd rather be outside running trains!South-Trethevy wrote:yeah but every mamod is differant,
a charector to make em special!
Also, I've driven a friend's Edrig and it's a lovely engine...so in the end, that's the way I cast my vote

Ah the timeing for me would of been a 5 miniute job, but i turned the shaft that goes into the valve block the wrong way and it fell out of where it links into the reverser! With mine it was a case of screw the shaft into the block to make it go better in reverse and out of the block to make it go beter forward

Well I have to admit to having had a very small but necessary tinker with my Accucraft "Ida", that was to fix one of the cylinder valves which had come loose on its adjustment screw and had un-adjusted itself whilst running, oh and I fitted radio control to it as well.laalratty wrote:Am I the only person on this forum to have had to tinker with an Accucraft engine to get it to run properly
Of course I will be doing alot of tinkering with my Edrig chassis. Hopefully next week (time willing) I will get started on making a new footplate for it.
John.

They are both great loco's, obviously the Mamod was designed for the Toy Market, and the Edrig is much more expensive and designed for the Garden Railway market.
Personaly I like the both and there is place for both of them on a garden railway too. I get as much of a buzz from seeing a Mamod, or IP or PPS loco in steam as watching an Accucraft of Roundhouse Loco. I especially like the little additions that can easily be made to the Mamod, to get a better running and better looking loco.

I think it very much depends on your line, if you are like me and just collect locos and stock laying the odd circel of track to run them i see little point and no matter how much i love them justify buying one! However being more involved with deseil 2ft gauge i am more drawn to these models!
