I have a bit of a dilemma (if Thats how you spell it) i have a scratch built steam loco that doesnt look very good, that i purchased. It has a really thin boiler and ruff looking body work. The best bit is the bottom, its a Meths fired 0-4-0 lady Anne chasis that runs superbly when tested on blocks. My dilemma is do i Just try to tart it up to look nice or build new bodywork or do I try to find the bits and make it back into a lady Anne. I'll try to post a pic over the weekend.

1) You spelled "dilemma" correctly. Many intelligent people spell it with an 'n', but this is incorrect.
2) I personally think you ought to try to replace the boiler and build body work to make it look like a Lady Anne again, or alternatively something even prettier. Life is too short to tolerate an ugly engine. On the other hand, let's see a picture of it. Maybe I'm wrong and it will look good after some tarting up.

The other option would be to buy a Lady Anne bodywork kit from Roundhouse................

that was my first thought Brian but then thought if i go the lady Anne route it would be nice to put it how it should be. I will still have to find a suitable boiler. Ah decisions !

Mike, I would ask Tony Sant at Finescale to make you a boiler. Good prices and excellent build quality

That looks quite cute - I'd perhaps start out by tidying it up a bit and see what it looks like!

Think I would strip it down to the frames, get a RH cylinder repair kit and replace all the seals an 'o' rings (if needed) then build a 'replica' vintage lady ann on it.

i think it could be a mamod smoke box, it has a really thin boiler. I think it may well get stripped and start again. Might need to finish Ste's Rheidol off first or he might Just get a bit upset. If any body hears of a lady Anne body and or boiler going spare that would encourage me. I would have to save up a bit to get tony to make me a boiler.

I like it. I would start by removing the woman in the engineroom.

Uhm...is it me, or is that bodywork a Mamod side tanks, with the 'front panels' from a second set ripped out and stuck onto the main tanks? It would make sense given the smokebox and what I suspect to be a Mamod based boiler too....
I'd say scrap the body and boiler and start over mate.

i think Thats the way I'm going to go. Be nice if i could find a boiler and original bodywork. Or failing that does anybody know if the new style body fits the old chasis ? Maybe I'll see what the guys and girls at roundhouse can sort out for me next Sunday.

Hmm, some cleaning, a slightly taller chimney and a lower (and flatter) cab roof and it might be a good export/plantation loco?
I actually kind of like it, but things do get odd with the small smokebox.
