Sweat Pea?? Must've been working hard!mhlr:63310 wrote:Steve Thorpe's Sweat Pea.
Nice pics Pete, I only got back about an hour ago, and so my pics will probably be on tommorow. T'was a fantastic day, despite some pretty awefull weather round midday, it kept dry after 2.00. The day finished with two monstrous double headers in twilight conditions
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

It's a bit weird, the JoL itself is a commercial holiday "resort", making it a minature railway more then a garden railway. Also, all other JoL topics are in off topic, I do try to keep things consistent!

Finally sorted my pics, had rather a busy weekend in one way or another having been at the SLR north today
Arrival at the JoL found this lot on shed. The people from Tywyn had bought 7 (!) locos, and most had a run at some point
Natasha was the first loco into steam, and soon set off for some running
Meanwhile, the other steam locos were getting warmed up
Natasha arrives back at Stokerton
Meanwhile
Just before lunch, a rather unconvincing Farther Christmas turned up. "Santa Paul" requested food, luckily it was served up to him, and other members of the Joys of Life model railway club by the very kind owners of the Joys of Life. Hence, running stopped for lunch
After lunch, Hedgehog (with a mild dose of tinsle-itus) took the first train round, driven by uncle Keith
Natasha loads with passengers at Stokerton
Visiting Sweet Pea brings a train into Stokerton
Resident model of Douglas
Douglas heads towards Highfield from the tunnel
Visiting Sweet Pea arrives at Moles Hill
Will took the regulator of Natasha for a rather challenging lap of the track, with the rails at that horrible intermediate greasy stage between wet and dry
Things ended in spectacular fashion, with a double header involving the two Sweet Peas, 4 packed carriages and 3 goods wagons. The train was so heavy that even with 2 locos it needed banking by Hedgehog up to Moles Hill. Santa was at the rear of the train dispencing presents and doing some very bad "ho-ho-ho-ing"
We then repeated the train with battery locos, which didn't really go well and I didn't get any pics of because I was driving it!
Finally, Douglas blows down on shed
A fantastic day, even in the perishing cold, thanks to all at the JoL and all of the visitors
