I was told today by Chris at Roundhouse that the survey is primarily aimed at their customers in the USA, and ideally they are looking for an American prototype as their next new model. She also said that all suggestions would be considered and there had been a lot of interest with suggestions ranging from good to impossible.

With that information I voted for FR Alco "Mountaineer" and the Brecon Mountain's Baldwin Pacific.

It has to be a Bagnall 0-4-0ST!

I can't believe a model has not been produced before by RH or similar as it seems to be such an obvious choice. So many real ones where produced for gauges from 2 foot to 4 foot, so a model would look good on any gauge.

For me they are a classic NG loco, easily as classic is the quarry Hunslet, and so many still survive today in preservation. Plus many where also made for export, so you could easily dirty one up and it would look good against a Darj B Class!

Its a solid, versatile and simple design, so for these reasons it gets my vote!

Too small for RH standards thought aint it? And also, the Bertie is based roughly on a Bagnall, so I don't think that would really warrant RH making one. I would say how about a Kerr Stuart Wren, but that's still too small.

Well, if RH want to do something genuinely different maybe its time they explored the possibility of building smaller engines? They must surely be capable of it, what with all the computer technology they have availible?

They probably could but the cost of making non standard parts would mean that the cost of the finished model would be high and therefore might not sell.

Not if they do one like 'Peter', it's bigger than a 'standard' Bagnall as it was originally three feet gauge.

Here's a comparison; 'Armistice' at the front, 'Wendy' in the middle and 'Peter' at the back.

I wonder if they'll release the results straight away, or wait until next year at Stoneleigh before they reveal all.

I've suggested L&B 2-6-2, Quarry Hunslet 'Covertcoat' in current condition, and R&E 'Northern Rock'.

I think they should make a W&L Countess!!! Then maybe the people who have to have Roundhouse loco's will sell there Accucraft ones & I could afford to get one secondhand!  :D  :D

Well it's a plan.
Tommy Dodd may have an ARS key but I have a TASS button & a Rope Ladder, just like pirates, except the TASS button bit.

Accucraft isn't as yet definatly going to do the L&B's. I talked to them at stoneleigh, and they said that at the moment, it's not going into production.

Sorry to raise the dead (defunct thread), but I do so agree and I couldn't resist adding a couple of photos:

As this has been brought back to life, out of interest does anyone know what the results were?

Which loco will be next years release?? Are they running out of prototypes. Needs to be wide interest, not a one off obviously.

Aren't George and Mildred the result of the survey?

Yes, i managed to get the very last loco build to come from the Pearse factory with the kind help of John Boyes.  Loco Number 707 was lined out by Matt Acton and adds a historic engine to my fleet.

Do I detect a minor derailment here ????
