Whilst looking for cheap and interesting things to run on my 16mm line, I have collected a small group of Hornby and Lionel O gauge wagons & tankers and realised though small for 16mm (though I have small industrial locos) some would do for Gn15.
I like the mistreted and rusty (has a real feel) and have re wheeled some (though kept the originals in case I sell on) as the wheels do not like running through O gauge points.
Hornby seems to have two sizes (scales?) but either would do.

Note Coopercraft trucks for comparrison (yes I know they are blue..but thats why they were cheap 2nd hand!)


Rewheel method 1. Binnie wheels and plastic tube glued toether over the original axle..ideal as larger stock is a little heavier.


Method 2. Brandbright steel wheels...ideal for smaller stock that need weight

What an excellent idea! I do love old stock, it just has so much character - I have a small collection of Trix Twin 00 wagons at home even though I have no layout to run them on!

But I thought GN15 used 16.5mm track, rather than 32mm?

I am hoping to have a mining track running in/out under my raised track bed

I have a Caton/Hornby tinplate steam engine and some Hornby rolling stock to run on my 16mm scale line.My rational is that there was a 2'gauge model of a 4-4-0 tender engine made in the north of England.I can see a rich industrialist having a 2'gauge model of a mainline train to run a round there estate.

Now to the point of this post.You can turn the flanges down on Hornby plastic wheels and put washers on axles to bring the wheels out to right back to back.That should fix the running problems.

I have a couple with plastic wheels that run ok...the majority are the tin plate so cannot be altered...however one log wagon came with small black wheels which are Binnie/Cambrian..so someone had ago already
