Removing Decals

Post by pauly » Sun Apr 03, 2011 1:06 pm

My Merlin Mayflower has the initials of its previous railway on its side tanks and I want to know how I can remove them without ruining the paintwork.

If they are normal waterslide decals and they are not sealed with a clearcoat, you could try some hot water first. Get a sponge, soak it in hot water and hold it against the decals. Should come right off.

Or you could try putting some masking tape over them and pull them off that way. Depends on the strenght of the paint below it though, you could damage it.

If they are sealed with a clearcoat there isn't much you can do without damaging the paint. Perhaps some very carefull application of paint thinner with a Q-tip.

Good luck!
