A somewhat unsual loco

Post by TheChestnutLine » Tue Mar 01, 2011 5:32 pm

As a child I was very much into K'nex and built all sorts of things. Then it struck me. 'I wonder if I could make a loco that could run on my Dad's garden railway?'

I've built many locos, most of them out of scale and never really built to any prototype but here's my current design which I've had for a year now.I think it would suit 7/8ths scale better but it looks ok with a couple of wagons behind it :)

I currently have two. One with roof and one without. I have considered either painting one or making card body panels but anyway. Here they are :)

By the way the 'metal thing' on the open cab loco is a light :D

I didn't consider k'nex to be a modelling medium until I saw those painted the shapes would look like elaborate ironwork.

WOW, those are awesome, and as spooner said, you should make some matching wagons and stuff to have a Kinex train.

The motor and transmission assembly also looks useful for a conventional model, and being clear, you can check the wear on the gears easily too.

that is just too cool!

I loved Knex as a kid, thought it was great stuff.
