As Steamy Jim and I are having a argument on OilyRags topic of Iver, which steam technology is better? Ye olde ossilators, or big n powerful fixed cylinders? You vote, to decide which is better!

My friend certianly prefers his Lumber Jack over his Mortimer, but I guess it's a matter of opinion, I prefer to hear a chuff rather than a purr, as it's one of the things I enjoy most about locos. Who cannot prefer a good strong exhaustbeat?
You defied it with 'fun' Jim, they're more 'toyish' than fixed cylinders, yet I love the way geared ocsillators handle my railway's ups & downs!

Well if its a regner geared loco, thats ok as they have gears to maximise their power... But certainly fixed are more realistic, and sound great!

occelators have their advantages, such as in a small motor for a tram etc.
also they have valve gear basicly built in.
but fixed have their advantages to, they look good, dont waddle,

I do prefer fixed cylinders overall, but I don't violently object to oscillating cylinders...unlike some of us...!

osillators are very good in geared locos, and fun in mamods but I think on something like an Ivor, they are a bit pointless
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."
