I think I'll take an opportunity to show one of my latest pieces
Image
Don't Mess With the Guard

The first Narrow gauge piece I've drawn in a LONG time. The Guard is represented here by my favourite fictional creature, a Northern Sergal. C'mon, Sergals are dangerous & cool. Perfect candidates for guard duties

I have never drawn a German car/van as I feel that they don't have character. That's why I always stick to classic Fords & British Sports cars although, I have drawn an Italian Ferrari before

Don't bring Herbie into this. He's a Volkswagen Beetle. My dad owned one & it broke in half when he put it up on jacks. The only good German cars (in my opinion) are '70s & 80's BMWs. Just take a look at the 635csi for example
Image
In black, this car would suit even the hardest of Glaswegian hard men. I'm working on a piece with this parked behind an anthromorphic who I'm going to dub 'The Big Man'. I love this car's menacing looks & that wing on the back, c'or

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I see an ugly boring saloon car.
For some real character try a landrover,

Boring?! I can understand ugly but BORING!!!! The 635 csi used a fuel injected straight 6 engine that produced 215bhp & gave it a top speed of 141 miles per hour. Just a tad slower to 60 than a Sierra Cossie but this was a car produced between 1982 & 1987. I can come up with a few fast saloons that are cool but the 635 was retailed as a coupe but BMW's idea of a coupe isn't a car with a fast back but just something that's just fast with lots of muscle. My dad actually drives a '90s 7 series which has starred in one of the Bond films & the first Transporter film. Although Bond drove a 750, the Transporter drove a 735 & my dad drives a 728i, it still has the same body.
The Germans know a thing or two to making a cool, brutish saloon car. Look at this one
Image
The CSL 3.0 from '73. Same type of engine as the 6 series, just 15bhp less, 5mph slower but the same 0-60 time of 7.3 seconds. I know know what certain countries are good in the terms of cars.

Britain: Sports cars
Germany: Brutish Saloons & high insurance prices
America: Useless, bad handling muscle cars
Italy: Pretty cars with bad electrics
France: Quirkiness (the DS proves my point there)

But of course, one that doesn't go in that list are Fords that are memorable rallying classics (13 of the Rallye sports models were Escorts after all)

 Fast dosnt mean 'cool' fast is boring! Its all about crusing and enjoying the car. there is nothing different about the boring 'brrrrrrr' of a water cooled engine. But the clatter and whistle of an air cooled engine is something else. The aircooled engine was way ahead of its time and really ingenious. Its ashame it was never futher developed passed porches flat 6's. I'm afraid the japs and the chinese killed that one off. Well I say that but me and a mate have just built something very special to put in the back of his early bay camper ;)

Horses for courses sums it up. I do off-roading and see big family saloons as useless to me but if I was a transporter I'd have a different opinion. (Sorry for being off topic Mr Moderator) But back on topic thats a very good sketch of a VW .

Iv got to admit, i dont see the point in driving slowly. at the end of the day cars are made to get you from A to B and to do that as quickly and economically (okay sports cars this doesnt apply!) as possible. if i wanted to go slowly id get on a train!
Thanks,

Unless you want to get to london in the same day! For me it's 6 hours to the centre of London by car, 3 by train! or 2 hours, depending which side of the country i'm in.

My dad used to have exactly the same car (except RHD) as the car in Transporter 2... Audi A8L W12 6.0 - my god that was a nice car, soooo fast as well. Touch the gas pedal, and your head falls off. I quite like Audis for what a modern car is, but I aint a fan of Vee Dubs or Beemers (except the old school ones).

Oh I agree... Although fast & car should not be used in the same sentance unless you have a lot of £££ worth sat on your driveway & a BMW Saloon is not that..

When I was still into fast I had this...

Image
Brought from new £8,000 2003 Honda CBR 954RR, or you can just call it a Fireblade.. Now that was quick & handled like nothing I had ridden before. But as Matt says fast isn't worth much unless you spend all the time doing trackdays or don't like having a driving license... Thats why after 15 years of riding sports bikes I grew up, got rid of my rice rocket & bought the only BMW I would ever own (ok I actually had a 97 325 for a while ;)  )... But this is a Keeper, had it for 4 years so far & always puts a smile on my face. Good on road, pretty good offroad. Not overly fast at 130mph, but you can give it some beans or just bimble about on or off the tarmac. Plus the riding position doesnt kill your back & arms. :D

Image
Image
BMW R1150 GS Adventure... Long Way round style..  :D

Right back on topic, Drawing is looking great Matt. My mate has a 58? splitty doormobile thing, I will have to show him your skills. Maybe he will want one of his van.. :D
Tommy Dodd may have an ARS key but I have a TASS button & a Rope Ladder, just like pirates, except the TASS button bit.
