Deben Valley Laal Railway

Post by Dr. Bond of the DVLR » Fri Oct 29, 2010 10:49 am

Ah, must have kept this one a secret...

Many thanks to Laalratty for building these for me, the two laal ratty 3ft gauge carriages which after the original laal ratty closed came to the DVLR! Now then, I am about to paint them into Olive and Elm but how exactly shall I paint them. Two elm stripes like the B and W carriages or just Olive bottom Elm top?

Many thanks for the excellent service from laal. He built removable rooves specialy for me and the models are as close to scale models as you can get.
I might just add that I ordered these when I had next to no passenger stock. Since then I have developed a large fleet!!

I've seen them in person & they're very nice. Now you just need a Manning Wardle to go with them. :D

Very nice looking Zach,

If it was me I would go with your loco colours blue with white.

Personally I'd suggest keeping it simple - green below the waist and white above, with green or black ends. The obvious alternative would be to paint all the framing in olive and only do the upper panels in white, but this would not look so good IMHO.
At any rate, they are beautiful models - but then we wouldn't expect any less from Laalratty, would we? Now all you need is an R&ER 0-6-0T to run with them :P I wonder how that would look in GER blue with a white roof?

Right, both are now painted with transfers applied and on their axles, I've also added end steps.

The small handrails in the rooves are really just a way for me to quickly tell which was round the rooves go!

Excellent, and they do look good with the Millie, which was the whole idea. Slightly surreal to see "my" carriages almost ready to enter service on a line a couple of hundred miles away...
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Looking really grand now, nice work on both sides.
Tommy Dodd may have an ARS key but I have a TASS button & a Rope Ladder, just like pirates, except the TASS button bit.

Brandbright, a tad pricey but very nice indeed, I am also numbering all my stock with the number supplied.
