Large gas tank but about the same size boiler as Bertie, which means it'll run out of water before the gas runs out.mhlr wrote:I'm hopeing for one this year. Either an Edrig, or a Bertie. But apparantly, Mille has a really large gas tank, so will run long. I just don't like the style...
DEFINITELY NOT a good idea! (not unless you fancy picking bits of exploded boiler out from your face) Besides, the Millie is a pot boiler, i.e. externally fired, like the Mamod. the less said about them the better!

Er...that can't be right...one of my friends owns a Millie, and she'll run for about forty minutes on one filling of gas, and has never run out of water before gas. Indeed, she even has a sight glass so you can see that you've put enough water in. The external firing has never been a problem either, the flame is very well shielded by the gas tank.Maesffordd-paul wrote:Large gas tank but about the same size boiler as Bertie, which means it'll run out of water before the gas runs out.

Obviously because of the flue in Bertie there is certainly going to be more capacity in Millie, it also depends on the way you feel about filling your loco, you either fill it to 3/4 or the top. One of my friends argues strongly that the boiler isn't going to 'blow' untill it begins to glow red and all that happens then is the solder begins to melt, he has seen this happen to an '0' gauge loco, and aparently the backhead just fell off the boiler with a 'pmph', no big bang, no flying shards of brass.
Having said that I'd have a Bertie anyday, as I have a mamod which is virtually the same design as Millie and you get more for your money with Bertie.
