Have I Created a Monster??

Post by MDLR » Wed Apr 14, 2010 9:46 pm

Went to Butterley for an evening running session this evening - the first time I'd had a rake of 4 bogie coaches to haul.

For the first time that I can recall, my Roundhouse "Jack" had to work really hard to haul the rake on a track which was a little greasy from earlier runners. I hadn't twigged that bogie coaches are a darn sight heavier than 4 wheelers and that flange resistance also slows things down. it was, however, nice to see the fully lit rake going round after virtually everybody else had gone..............

I'm sure Matt will add pictures - he had his camera with him!

I look forward to pics, I hope you understand now why I like running long trains of bogie coaches :D
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Does it help if you grease your bearings on yer bogies to run lighter. Bearings are often too tight on axles so a little file might help and a packing of copper paste.

Only one of the four coaches had run before, but I'm fairly certain the bearings aren't too tight. I will step up the lubrication and see if things improve!
