Otto tender and rewire

Post by cjallenby » Sun Mar 21, 2010 9:40 pm

Today the DVR decided to take the redundant and rather forgoten otto into the lines derby works (the railway is in hampshire! The project is to include a rewire as in electric mode the engine ran the opposite way to everything else! Also a new radio controlled car cicuit to be installed for the tender. The old one was deemed beyond economical repair. Here are the two units posed before dismantling on my new workbench (this bench also serves as a work surface for uni stuff too!

Otto and tender. Cab is the orriginal with tanks and back removed. It has also been painted a more model like black as opposed to toy like green. Tender is an LGB wagon bits and a chassis sawn in half, shortend and glued back together again.

The inside of the engine with lead removed. Some of the wire is for the DPDT switch to allow battery oor track power operation. More on this later.

Under neath the tender showing copious amounts of "No more nails" applied to glue the chassis back together again. Plasticard stiffners are underneath this glue! The top is an old wagon body cut up and the chassis was bought on ebay and cut into two to make it shorter. The end platform has become the steps at the front. The front coupler has also been shortend to bring the loco and tender closed together.

The otto engine is now re wired so the lights work on battery or electric (its a simple direct link to the motor!) Tested on batteries as the track in my room is not actualy set up. Now I need a new circuit board and some time at home to test it on the DVR! Roll on Easter holidays!
