The end has come
The end has come
The end has come. The worlds most powerful mamod has died. After much consulting with witches (well she trned me into a newt) and other spiritualitist people (druids) I can resurect it. To do this though I need a set of new IP wheels and connectiong rods. The wheels I have sourced but Im having trouple locating those steel connecting rods IP did a few years back. Does anyone know where I can get a set?

I assume that you have worn down your Mamod wheels.
If they are just loose on the axles then you can re-punch them back on, or I have heard some people having success with loctite, etc.
As has already been stated PPS say that they have spares for the IP Jane, which should include the coupling rods.
I have my IP Jane/PPS Janet ( http://gardenrails.myfreeforum.org/about121.html )and this has the standard Mamod coupling rods which fit OK. Interestingly whilst the Mamod coupling rods are held on with 2 washers and a circlip per wheel, the IP Jane just has a circlip (no washers).
You need to be careful with these IP Eng/PPS wheels as they do not tolerate mis-aligment in the chassis. My IP Jane came with a Meths burner which I have just replaced with a PPS Ceramic gas burner. However the chassis spacer for the Meths burner was smaller than the spacer attachment for this gas burner, and as a result the rear axle is now tight. Checking the axles on my composite rebuild and it is the other way round, rear axle is free and front driving axle is tight. They do not like being mis-aligned in the fore/aft sense, and my IP Jane couplings rods have been slightly bent due to that stiff rear axle.

Ive got IP wheels already on it and the bearings are shot. Its done so many miles the wheels are grooved.
Bungle. There is very little point (no pun intended) on coming round cos the box is 99% finished. Thank for the offer though.

I think it might just be a case of putting in an o seal with a smaller inside diameter.

Replace the O ring with a standard one but when you put the line in, put a LIGHT coat (make sure all is clean first) of High Temp automotive sealer on it. I had some leftover Toyota stuff, but they are all about the same.ptlrcecil wrote:I think it might just be a case of putting in an o seal with a smaller inside diameter.
I let mine dry a few days before steaming.....No leaks!!!!
