Track Relaying on the Westwood & Loscoe Light Railway.

The Codnor branch has been lifted and the new track has arrived So today, despite the weather, survey work started for the major track relaying to be carried out before the Spring running timetable.



In this shot, the actual extent of the settling due to poor foundations can be seen beyond the station loop

Yes, 45mm and Rule 8a says it's the Right gauge!

What country in the world uses 45mm & nothing else. America & as we know, they buy steam outline engines that cost more than live steam because they have a whole bunch of cheap sounds & are mostly made from cheap plastics

Of course, you could always prefix your comments with the words "I think" (and of course leave out words such as "we all") just to leave the offended parties in absolutely no doubt about the origins of such statements!?

When I see an American garden railway on youtube, it's mostly LGB, plastic, cheap sounds & steam outline. They've also just discovered batteries & they say ''It's a revolutionary way of operating trains in the garden'' when we've had it for years. I'll stop now because I'm just turning into Ashpan11

Well, due to the weather I didn't get far, but once this weekends over "The Big Push" is on!

I just noticed the shot of Westwood Station on my birthday card - it's desperately in need of a spruce up for the spring season!! (good excuse to finally putting the posters and signs up!)
I'm going to have to remove the station buildings for the track relaying and SWMBO has presented me with one of the Cain Howley double length platforms (and a Model Town "Tin Tabernacle" )

So far, I've been working my way along the line in "bite sized" sections that could be lifted - the trackbed fettled and relaid in one session, so's not to interupt any possible running.

Today however I bit the bullet!

Having decided that I'd do some work rather than skive off for a Mothers Day run at Butterley, I removed all the structures along the Westwood Station section - ripped up all the track and laid in the new trackbed



The foundations here are some window lintels that I was gifted and the new platform is postioned for reference (and it still needs painting!)
The major problem came 2/3rds of the way through the job when I managed to trap my third finger between two rocks that I was repositioning for clearance on the new formation (BIG ones, down the bottom corner, not the pebbles in the photo!)
Fortunately it's my right hand so it won't affect my fretting on the guitar and I can amuse myself watching the nail turning black

At least now that horrendous dip that had appeared just beyond the station limits (see previous) has gone

Ta! I would have got the main running line back down, without the loop and sidings but the Financial Dictator (now also the W&LLR Safety Elf Representative!) insisted that I stop bleeding all over the place and come indoors

Now I've cleaned up and the adrenaline has subsided it hurts like hell

Luckily we're not gigging until Thursday, when we head up t'North East for a three day tour!
At the mo' even the thought of strumming and picking turns my stomach
