Hiya guys,

Last year I picked up a second hand old kit which turned out to have the vacuum formed plastic sides missing!
I've tried Tenmille, but no luck cos it's long out of production so....................

I was wondering if anyone has a spare set of sides for this kit that they aren't going to use and would like to sell before I set to and scratch build 'em.

If you've got an old battered version of this coach with the sides pretty much intact, that would be equally welcome!

What width should the material be? what sizes etc could possible replicate some..

also, i see you are in the east midlands....are you in the east midlands 16mm group? if not its free to join and lots of excellent layouts to be see and cups of tea to be sampled! (((plug)))

Hiya Will,
the original sides are the REALLY thin plastic (thou's thin!), a white one and a clear one. The idea was to cut out the windows, paint the side then glue it to the clear sheet.

I've got some dead thin ply and if I can't get replacements, I'll use that to scratchbuild from drawings - I want to avoid that if I can (cos I'm a lazer cut!)

Hi Sir Haydn,
I'll bet the Perfick World coach will be excellent, but then again, I also bet the price would stretch the W&LLR budget somewhat! (that's why I ended up with this one, well this and the Stanton as a pair but that's complete!)

Not to worry though, I can always treat it as another "restoration project" for Pentrich Sidings!

I haven't yet joined the E.M. group, I've already explained to Brian that it's difficult being an itinerant entertainer - my days off just don't easily fit in with anyone elses (eg, I joined the Butterley group last year and have been................once!!!!)
Thank heavens for the internet eh?!

BUT - I will be making the effort, it was one of my resolutions for 2010. Hope to see ya!

You might also have a claim to fame there too..............anybody else got an unfinished kit from pre 1995??

Looks like that could be the open end of the Stanton next to it too, - jealous.

Not really the "Claim to fame" I was hoping for!! Here's the other carriage. I actually bought these in 91!! on a trip to the UK to visit the parents, I got them from a guy in southend I think? He was trading out of his backyard shed......................

I also have this but confess I have no idea what it is now!

It is more 1/32 than 16mm though as evidenced by this shot

Ah, those were the days (my friend)! Very nice items of rolling stock.
That looks like TR carriage No.16 (the Stanton) but with a lengthened, lengthened guards compartment!
You really must get that kit finished now, I've got to ask are you going to in San Francisco ? :lol:

Well it's starting to look like I'm going to have to scratch build the sides of the coach.........................

I have been using a huge gurt big vac forming machine to attempt to make a Dumper Truck tipper to no avail as it splits up the corners as i take it out the mold.

Have you been tapering the edges to make it slide out the mould easier?

Oh well, never got round to scratch building the sides due to other projects and then one of these coaches has come up on eBay

I've stayed in the bidding all week but we're down to the last couple of hours and it's gone over the £40 limit I'd set myself, so it looks like I'd better clear the decks and get to work
