CHUFF PIPE

Hi all as i have 4 steam loco 3 accucraft and 1 mamod i would like fit chuff pipes to them can any body send me diagram of chuff pipe desigen.

Why make them when you can buy them? PTLRcecil's dad makes chuff pipes for accucraft locos and they do increase the chuff quite a lot. Send him a PM and he should sort you out, he does spectacle plate glasses as well
As for the mamod, getting a good chuff is a bit of a black art I believe

hmmm, The mamod is relitively easy, just get a piece of pipe a puch fit over the exhaust which you might have to cut down a tad. sqeeze the top of the pipe and file about 1 cm or so from the bottom of the new pipe. Bend the gap above the mouth (the lip) inwards a little and hey presto it should (in theory) work. I am not sure what shape slot or size pipe works best but why not have a bit of an experiment!
Give it a go and produce some proper instrutions and designs for future mamod loco owners! As for accucraft I don't know how you could make the screw bit at the bottome with out taps or dies ect.

As ratty said, get onto PTLR engineering!!! They make a darned good chuff. I had my Lawley 'Cumberland' chuffing beautifully at the weekend and it is fitted with one!!

Is it now ? What you have to do with the mamod is drill a hole on the smoke box dirrectly below the chimney and send the pipe up that. You get a nice chuff and nice clouds of steam

What I did with one of my mamods is just crimp the end of the exhaust, and it works really well!

and it's ever so slightly more controllable (I don't know how though

)

It restricts the exhaust which puts back pressure on the pistons.

I've got a Summerlands one, not cheap but very good and a very nice chap too- he built the nice Edrig tender loco that was in GR. Could get them from a few different companies- so your engines sound a bit different from each other!

Ive just chopped The pipe on my mamod so it ends centrally half way up the smoke box then crimp the end. Sounds fantastic (when it works). As for the Accucrafts both PTLR Engineering and Acme engineering make some damn good chuff pipes.

I made an exhaust regulator for one of my mamods (just restricts the steam through the exhaust), and now it makes quite a nice chuff.

The Acme ones for sound just leave the summerlands pipes in the dust in terms off how much noise they make.
