W&L Bolster Wagon

Post by -steves- » Sat Dec 26, 2020 7:43 pm

If you did not read the story of the single bolster wagon, then I will put it here too. I purchased a few Accucraft wagons in a bundle from eBay a few years ago. In this there was a single W&L bolster wagon and I have been trying to search for one to pair it up to since then. After the purchase of a 3D printer and a little experience with Tinkercad I decided to make one. Well, I did that and obviously as my CAD work was not up to scratch with things like differing letter styles etc the two did not really make a convincing pair. So I printed another and now I have a pair of bolster wagons like I have wanted for a few years now. The only issue being of course is I now have a spare Accucraft bolster wagon, again, lol. I still have the ends to make but they are awaiting printer time, but I am pleased so far. :D

Anyway, here are some pictures of it on the track today.

They look great, Steve. The lettering looks very neat to me - well worth the effort.

The lettering was all raised on purpose on the print as I do not have a steady hand and it's far easier to paint raised letters rather than just trying to free hand it  It also took me a number of attempts, much paint was painted on and wiped straight off again, lol

I have also added "the side bits" (no idea what they are called?), but they are for holding the load on, lol

What a brilliant idea! I did notice the raised lettering before painting and thought it a bit odd and wondered why you did it, but I understand it now. Fantastic.

Method in my madness after all and there was everyone just thinking I had lost it, well you're right, I have but that's another story, lol

Yes raised lettering is a simple solution. I remade the Kerr Stuart 4415 engine casing sides with raised lettering.

It is so easy to get front latter spacing and sizes all correct this way.

That may not be possible. Steve has not logged in to this forum since back in February and has allegedly given up the hobby, unfortunately.

When he gave up, he placed most of his loco models on Thingiverse. Not sure if he also put his rolling stock models on there as well.

His Thingiverse releases are at https://www.thingiverse.com/_steve_/designs
No wagons, just locos and a few little other bits
