Large garden layout and shed layout

Post by Saveriksgdnrail » Thu May 29, 2025 9:38 pm

A friend has just passed away.
He had a very large O gauge garden layout built on breeze blocks, and a large OO guage layout in a shed.
He has left both to a willing charity
Not much stock as most was stolen, but loads of track and scenery for OO and track for O.
Is there likely to be anyone who would wish to come and take it all and re-use?
I'm in the West Midlands, but for security don't wish to divulge more.#
Have photos I can whatsapp to people

Welcome to the forum.
So sorry to hear about the loss of a friend and also about the theft of the stock. That must have been a double blow for his family.

Hopefully, someone here might be interested or pass the info on to those who are.

Thanks - very interesting as the person's nickname was Rik....apparently the layout can be seen on Google Earth...the key question is if any of the track can be salvaged and re-used or not.

A couple of photos might help to generate some interest and/or give us a clue as to the likelihood of salvageability.

Pls see photos as requested. House to be sold. Garden and shed to be cleared. Person wanted layouts to be saved if possible. Not totally clear how put together but external on breeze blocks. Believe it all still operates ok

Thanks for the pics.
WOW! Those are two amazing layouts, what a shame they have to go.

I would say Yes, the trackwork looks to be salvageable and reusable. It will take a fair bit of time and effort to do so though, there are a million screws holding the outside track to the blocks, for a start! Should be worth it for somebody though, there must be hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds worth at new prices. It just need to find the right buyer somehow.

I've seen one or two instances where somebody listed a huge garden railway "for sale, comes with a free house"...

Thanks all, very helpful, someone from a local model rail club, a charity, has offered to come to look; pointing out the screws in the O was also very heplful, I will let you know what happens, any other offers of help gladly received, sadly we are told the layouts have to go as the house has to be sold to meet the dreaded inheritance tax bill. But if anyone wants a free house with purchase of two layouts, guess the executors might consider....
