Not the QGRG: Petersfield on tour
I often think Fate is very good at irony... as an example, for the last three quarters I've had photos which I think are worthy candidates for the various themes of the Quarterly Gallery - but they don't qualify. Not having a line of my own at the moment means I'm dependent on visiting others' lines to run and photograph. I can drive or photograph - doing both is tricky ... so most of my decent snaps are of other people's trains on someone else's line. That's not a plea to change the rules, just a [wry] observation. Anyway, I'd like to share some snaps, I hope they are of interest.
Winter sun and three glint shots:
Now if this had been my stock I'd have had a decent entry for 'Bridges'. (For the technically curious, the loco's a Lady Anne chassis with a Billy boiler and a tender added).

And the previous quarter, I had a nice panned frame of a WHR train:
And with a certain amount of juggling, I managed to get one of my own stock - but it was bunker first and wasn't quite as focussed - maybe because I was holding the regulator open with the camera ...
(So in the end I went with my Southern steam shunting frame).
Then, 'Steam on Shed':

As long as the photo includes your own stock, it can be on other people's railways.Petersfield wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2025 8:20 pm I often think Fate is very good at irony... as an example, for the last three quarters I've had photos which I think are worthy candidates for the various themes of the Quarterly Gallery - but they don't qualify. 4) The photographs submitted must be taken by the entrant themselves, and either of their own models, or of visitors to their railway, or their own stock when visiting another line.
So, submit away.

Thanks but that's the problem - most of the good photos are not of my stock. Of those above, the one which is (the panned one which I was going to call 'Southern Steam at Speed') I wasn't very happy with (bunker first and a bit out of focus) so I submitted another frame for last quarter (my stock on a [near] neighbour's line). All the glint shots above (and the shed photo) are [another] neighbour's stock on his line. Otherwise I'd have picked one and felt happy I was entering something different and with a little artistic merit.ge_rik wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2025 11:48 am As long as the photo includes your own stock, it can be on other people's railways.

Another problem for me at the moment is my Paint Shop Pro has stopped working after a Windoze update (mutter, grumble, turdycurses...) and I haven't been able to adjust the dimensions or resize photos using any of the other software on my machine. It will keep me out of the Gallery this time round but quite honestly I've nothing very good to submit anyway and I didn't want it to look like I was creating work for Philip. But I'll be back as soon as the weather and the software let me take and submit a decent frame. And as soon as I can get something built (outside) the opportunities for the Gallery will increase a lot!

If your remote has a spring on the reverser, you might benefit from taking it out... Then you'd have a hand free to hold the camera.
Miles-- Trains are fun. With the exception of track power. Argh!

It does and is far enough away from the regulator to need two hands to drive - or one and something else to push the regulator against. Like a nose or coat toggle or camera... I'll have a look at that, thanks.

Some very good photos there. I'm a sucker for "on-shed" shots.
That colonial Billy-ish is a nice one too.

Another trip out this week - it's been a crazy week for weather, one day a woolly hat was a rather good idea and the following day ... a sunhat...
Spring has sprung...
We did have some operating problems, in my case caused by running two newly built Plateway wagons in a consist with IP Engineering POWs - the former's hook is smaller than the latter and even with considerable efforts being made to avoid jerky running, the occasional buffer clashing often led to the two/three link couplings slipping off the Plateway wagon hooks. Several breakaways occurred. One accident was narrowly avoided by the hand of 'God' snatching a cattle wagon off the track inches before an advancing train...
That was not the only operating hazard - an over-scale inquisitive feline was another...

No particularly good shed shots for OM Aaron this time I'm afraid - the only one I caught was one of the Foreman having an illicit fag...
Though there was a 'colonial' engine on a coal train on the other side of the line.

Sounds like perfectly normal Melbourne weather to me, except it would be all in one day!Petersfield wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 7:33 pm it's been a crazy week for weather, one day a woolly hat was a rather good idea and the following day ... a sunhat
Nice pics.
