Darjeeling A class - Roundhouse
Happy New Year everyone.
I woke up this morning to find news of this lurking in my email:

Nice looking loco that, but who can splash out on something that is £2700… I know I certainly can’t, not with the cost of living going up again.
But some lucky people will be able too, so hopefully we can get to see it running on someone’s line.

Looks very pretty, don't think I've ever seen an A class modeled. I'm clearly not in the target market for a model like this though... If it costs that much I'd better be able to ride it to work!

Nice to see the Darj. lineup completed, I think many of us knew it was only a matter of time before Roundhouse would do it.
And not to sound like a wibbling whinger, but it's nice to see a RH release that isn't Welsh for a change.
Far as price goes, (speaking as a low-income person myself) everything in life is expensive.
It's a rare example of domestic production, and your fellow regular people are earning an honest living - keeping old skills alive to boot.
it's only a matter of putting away a few dollars at every chance, and being patient. If you want something badly enough, then the patience is worth it.

Whilst not in the same league, the loss of Mamod last year is another example of the loss of domestic production.

I've been thinking a while and I felt I should come back to this one to apologize for my attitude. While I've been frustrated lately at my tightening budget that's no reason for me to be snarky about it. I don't mean to disparage the way others choose to spend their money, nor downplay the work of the engineers and craftspeople who make such models possible. Rather, I can appreciate the beauty of a model like this on other hobbyists' railways, and recognize that (unattainable though it may seem at the moment) this is nowhere close to the higher end of pretty much any hobby.Old Man Aaron wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 2:06 am Nice to see the Darj. lineup completed, I think many of us knew it was only a matter of time before Roundhouse would do it.

I guess it's in the eye of the beholder and the circumstances. In my opinion, there is no reason for either side to apologise for anything.
I ordered this gem immediately on New Year's Morning and am looking forward to receiving this piece of jewellery in July.
I have to say, I don't smoke, I don't drink, there are no more children to look after, my house is well looked after and I'm 70 years young, so why not? There have been times in my life when I couldn't even begin to think about affording something like this. Life is short...

My own feeling is the price is what it is. Despite being the OP, this model isn't one for me. But I thought others might well be interested, whether as potential purchasers or those who admire 'from afar'.
The cost of living and squeeze on household budgets are something I know some folk have concerns about. Some of us are more fortunate than others, whether due to good planning or pure chance. At least with local area groups and YouTube you can see locos you don't have yourself running.
