Thanks Rik,

gradually getting there and feeling more positive about the build than earlier in the year.

It will be interesting to see how it performs, I suspect it might need some weight redistribution but that's still a way off!

Some more paint applied and I am happily surprised with the quality of the finish. The maroon is looking better than I expected and the finish could probably at this stage be left glossy

The question now is whether to apply rivets or to say 'I quite like it like that' and not bother.

Peter,

it’s not a fear of adding the rivets, more an uncertainty of what fixing them with the rather pleasing gloss surface I have at present might entail in terms of suitable adhesive and whether I would need to key the gloss before attempting to stick them on, with the background thought that I may end up less satisfied than at the moment.

This afternoon I have been working on getting the chassis moving under the influence of the motor. I have fitted the switch with necessary wires through the firebox into the tank space, fitted the motor and wheels and got the connecting rods operating quite smoothly. I have not dared yet to apply glue to the nuts holding connecting rods in place so it was a brief test.

Having already painted it, canopy glue may well be the best to use to affix rivets. It won't react with the paint and spoil the finish. It's looking good as it is though. As it's your railway, it could the first welded construction for your railway?☺️

Thanks Phil,

I had wondered about using canopy glue, it’s something that I use for a number of things.

I’m very tempted to leave it as another welded locomotive in my collection. So long as I hang onto the rest of the can of paint, if I decide later on to add some rivets, I could do the necessary extra coats of paint later,

I watched the video on YouTube last night, a long and well filmed presentation, however no information other than the title of exhibit.
Was the show well attended?

It seemed to be a good exhibition and well attended. There were layouts tucked into all sorts of places within the museum and around the exhibits.

Hulme End is particularly impressive, though pulsed smoke would have been the final cherry on the cake.

I spent Friday morning installing the receiver and most of the associated wiring in Bakewell. The battery pack had insufficient charge to do more than turn the wheels for a few seconds so it was left for the afternoon and evening on charge.

This afternoon I completed the wiring having made a small correction to the LED polarity and temporarily fixed the tender body to chassis.

She was then taken to the garden track and test run.

I was pleased!

Sorry Rod,

I knew if I put the post up too soon someone would try to view the video before it went public!

It’s there now,

I was thinking how smoothly it was running, as well..

So many mechanisms seem to have a bit of a 'limp'.

Well done!

Apart from coaling the tender I think this will do for now.

Just posed, not intending to try running in these conditions!
