Rattle cans

Post by gilfachphil » Fri Oct 25, 2024 10:32 am

I have been very pleased with the results I have been getting with spray paint from this supplier on Ebay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274908120652 ... 5178891507

Lots of colours available and at £8-69 delivered, living some 20 miles from the nearest Halfords, remarkably good value,

Phil

Phil, I've got a couple of cans of WRX and it seems to be OK, a bit smelly though.

Have you used any of their clear varnishes. I'm fed up with buying cans of other brands and only get one use before they clog up leaving 3/4 of it trapped in the can!

Hi Philip,

no this is the first of their products I have used.

With rattle cans I always take off the nozzle after use and an upside down quick spray and put it in a small jar of acetone to keep clean. Might that help with the varnish ones?

The clogs I've had with both PlastiKote and Polar have been inside the can, presumably at the bottom of that red tube. One had clogged up before I'd even used it for the first time, but I'd had it for just a few days longer than the Amazon return window! Grrr!

That sounds worthy of a complaint to the manufacturer!

My experience with Plastikote was it didn't come out of the nozzle cleanly. It spluttered and dribbled down the can. I've only ever tried Plastikote cans twice but had the same experience with both. Never had a problem with Halfords.

A suggestion with rattle cans. I have found if you don't shake them up for long enough you draw unmixed paint up the tube in the can. I have used them for years and don't remove the nozzles just wipe the face when finished and very rarely have trouble. When I do it's usually because I've been in a hurry and not mixed the can properly. And I shake them for longer than the 2 minutes usually recommended.
Just a thought.
Grant.

Hi William,
Not sure what you mean by picture icon? However posting pictures is very easy. Simply drag and drop your picture on to your post and then scroll down to the bottom of the window.
Click the Attachments tab, when its file name will appear at the LHS.
Then click 'place inline' and its URL will appear in your post.
Click 'preview to see your post with picture.
When happy click, Submit.

For a full explanation, take a look at the "How To...." section, I think it's the 5th line down in the General section.

Damn fine work.

As an aside, I'll echo Grant's experiences.

To clean,
Hold them upside-down and spray (into an empty box). You're not drawing any paint, just gas. This clears the tube and nozzle, then wipe.

Added tip, maybe everyone know this. That black dot on the rim, have the nozzle point in that direction. The pickup tube bends into the corner at the bottom in the direction of the dot. A downward tilt makes sure you are getting all of the product.
