Hi, I've got this problem on my Archangel Vale of Rheidol Loco which was originally intermittent but now seems permanent and I'm now running out of ideas, There are two wicks in the firebox and the leading one won't stay alight, originally I thought that it was maybe being starved of fuel so separated the two by providing it's own feed pipe but that has made no difference, I've tried moving it to one side out of the 'draft' of the rear [ slightly bigger ] one thinking it's overwhelming the one at the front but that makes no difference either. The only idea I've got left is try and squash them side by side at the back of the firebox. Anybody got any thoughts?
Thanks in advance John.

Re: Archangel Internally Fired Meths Wick Problem
You must understand I have no experience with these things. But I have a thought after looking at this setup. If the wick is going out it’s either because of fuel or oxygen. You’ve already made sure it’s getting fuel, so that’s not the problem. Are combustion gasses from the rear wick choking the front one? What if you were to lower the leading one by slightly bending to be feed tube so the tops of the wicks aren’t even with each other. Maybe that will lower the base of the flame from the front one into some cleaner air)
Just a thought. Wouldn’t hurt to try it, you never know

Re: Archangel Internally Fired Meths Wick Problem
Sorry but only just seen this, try thinning out the wick material so more meths can be drawn up the tube, from the angle of the photograph the front wicks look shorter, maybe increase the length. Looking at the picture the front wick holder looks awful close to one side of the firebox, make sure the wick is not touching the inner side of the firebox. Final thought, is there a tiny pinhole leak somewhere spraying the wick with water? cheers Rob
