Transparent filament recommendation please

Post by Paul_in_Ricky » Mon Sep 16, 2024 8:51 am

Can anyone recommend a translucent red filament available in the UK please ?
I've tried the Amazon basic one and it's closer to orange than red. I need a deep primary red colour, the sort of colour for a signal glass or stop light lens.

I can't help directly, the only transparent/translucent filament I've ever played with, quite a few years ago, was 'clear' which was OK for the glass in station lamps but didn't hide the layer lines.
I've just done a quick look around out of curiosity and came across this one:
https://www.mscdirect.co.uk/rigidink-17 ... 3dp-10198j

Interestingly, I used to use "RigidInk" filaments until they went out of business some years ago and had excellent results, but I don't know if this is actually the same product on not. However it is available in 10m lengths at £2-87 so you wouldn't have much to lose if it's no good!

Thanks, that looked a great option until I discovered it could only be couriered at almost twice it's cost. I can buy 1kg from Amazon for two quid more.

Let's not mention the infected web site and pain of trying to register.

Not a link for filament, but wouldn't it be possible to use lighting gel sheets? Plenty of colour options, and you could design your lamp to hold the gel in place?

Thanks for the thought, but it's an object I need to print not just a pane of colour.
I'd just hoped someone here might have been through that search before.

Ah, sorry. I took your comment referencing signal lenses too literally. I hope you find a solution that works.

Not a recommendation, and only the smallest help in narrowing it down, but I tried some Flashforge translucent filament and it was easily the worst filament I've used, so I'd cross that off your list. (Their opaque filament has generally been fine).

Thanks, knowing what doesn't work is useful info.

For anyone interested, I've just used Tinmorry PETG transparent red and it's a convincing red. Pretty cheap too from Amazon.
