Today, I Have Mainly been Lighting............

Post by MDLR » Mon May 25, 2009 9:46 pm

............... mostly on the two new bogie coaches, which now have their lights installed and working - roofs next!

The other project I made a start on was to adapt some 1:24 scale dolls' house "Tiffany" table lamps for LED illumination. I'd got some 3mm "bright white" LEDs and some heat shrink, so that one leg of the LED could be cut off short and soldered to the top of the metal lamp standard - the other leg was covered in heatshrink and passed through the drilled out hole down the middle of the lamp standard. Solder a wire to the bottom of the standard (which appears to be made of brass) and connect to a battery, and Bob's your uncle!

Image

shows how the job was done - you can just see the red heatshink showing at the bottom of the lamp. As the lamp will be fixed down to a table, it'll all be hidden.

Image
shows the lamp alight - it actually looks better than this!

Brilliant, that will look fantastic in a first class compartment. Look forward to seeing some pics of the coaches :)
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

I just had a very strong feeling of deja vu! I swear I just read this word for word somewhere else! LOL! But this time there are pictures! (Darned egroup Digests!)

It looks an ingenious idea! Very nice!

"Who has stolen the 3 link coupling off the end of my train?!?!

.....[a few minutes pass hunting down replacements].....

"So, which comedian has uncoupled my entire train?!?!"
