Merlin Midas MKIII
Re: Merlin Midas MKIII
Welcome! We have an introduction section here: https://gardenrails.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=32
Feel free to tell us a little about yourself, your rail interests, and your railway/aspirations over there!
As for the Merlin, I'll have to defer to the live steam folks. It's very pretty, I think the red suits it well!

Merlin locos seem to have a charm of their own.
You are very fortunate to own such a loco. Please show us more.

Re: Merlin Midas MKIII
Interesting. This looks like a Major above the running boards, but with outside frames, the Beck wheels, and updated valve gear?

Re: Merlin Midas MKIII
My guess it's a Merlin from pretty early on in their history. I've not seen a Midas with this body before but afaik they are 0-4-0/2 whereas this is 0-6-0?
It looks to have a Beck Chassis/Valves etc but the body work/boiler is distinctively Merlin. Something in between the Mayflower/Major and what I assume are the first Merlin sold locomotives:

A video of an early Merlin/Beck which has similar buffers to this one:

For reference, here is my Major:

Re: Merlin Midas MKIII
The chassis and bodywork looks pure Merlin Maestro to me. I have one with a beck boiler (with the regulator valve mounted on the boiler) but yours looks to have a later boiler, so I'm not sure whether it's still a Maestro or not...
