My Mamod Quarry - Update

The Taming of Gerhilde - manual control live steam Mamod Quarry Loco

It appears that threats can work on steam engines!!!

Both train engines are controlled by a Piko key fob. The GE switcher has 4 traction tyres and is fitted with some sort of safety cutout if it stalls, great idea. That’s why there are a few abrupt stops; all on the entry to R1 points. The converted Stainz only has one traction tyre.

1 traction tyre? Doesn't that make it wobble?😉

Everything on the FeckHallBahn wobbles…
I’d never thought about that before, but it all 3 of my LGB steam outline locos have a single traction tyre. Weird…

Very interesting, I had planned to fit a pair of traction tires to the drive wheels of the new larger diesel I've been working on, but decided to start with just one tire. Given the tight curves of my line, it seemed like two might cause skipping with a solid axle between them (no differential).

Ah, is that the logic involved then? I've never resorted to traction tyres, but I don't run LGB or 45mm.

Maybe? Pure conjecture on my part. I also have no idea about LGB or 45mm, just a case of convergent evolution I guess.
