No, I think it will be heavily weathered to hide some of the blemishes I can't remove entirely.

Yes, it'll be interesting to compare the two when they're done. Yours is going to have a lot more detail than mine - which will be minimalistic.

I'm thinking I'll make another all-3D printed body to fit directly on the HGLW chassis. That way, if anyone wants to print their own body shell for the HGLW chassis it might prove attractive.

What have you given him, he looks completely legless!

Both drivers of my little industrial diesel are missing part or all of a leg, for purely coincidental reasons of course, and nothing to do with the exposed belt /chain drive. This one is a failed print and the other was a broken action figure.

OK. So things are progressing, albeit slowly.

After looking closely at the photo of the prototype loco, it was apparent that the cab isn't central and so, I decided to move the cab on the HGLW loco back by around 15mm. This required a considerable amount of hacking with razor saw and Stanley knife. The bonnets were duly modified and printed out. These were attached, together with window frames and the model given a couple of coats of Halfords plastic filler primer. So far so good.

Shucks, I was hoping nobody'd notice that! At the moment, yes, because the belt for the rear keeps slipping off the big pulley and is actually riding on the pulley's axle. Oddly enough it works fine for now. I've redesigned the drive pulley with a smaller diameter for both front and back belts and just waiting for more filament.

This loco was my first proof of concept for a self-propelled railway vehicle, and probably warrants its own project thread at this point. I'll start writing that up so I don't drift Rik's thread any further.

Andy, I have been trying to find out more about McEwan Pratt petrol locomotives for many years and failed miserably. Your link was greatly appreciated and I will now set about another scratch-build to pair with this one I made in 2017.....

Andy, I have been trying to find out more about McEwan Pratt petrol locomotives for many years and failed miserably.

I never worked out what the canopies were for either.

McEwan Pratt went broke before WW1, so their records will be long gone. Baguley bought the remains from the receiver and used the name for a while before the first Baguley Co. went under in the '30s. It would seem 'Megaera' was unsold when McEwan Pratt were taken over. All their other locos were exported to the colonies, so presumably 'Megaera' was also intended for the tropics, hence the full length roof.

There's a potted history of McEwan Pratt and their locos in the book 'The British Internal Combustion Locomotive 1894-1940', Brian Webb, David & Charles, 1973. It's been out of print for well over 40 years, but copies are fairly easy to find, mine came from AbeBooks.

Early British IC locos were a strange collection of weird and wonderful contraptions, so that book might be a happy hunting ground of projects for you (and Phillipy).........

BTW - The Apedale collection is worth a browse and a visit if you are ever in the Stoke area. Look out for their open days as their collection is only viewable on certain days each year, though you can ride on their railway most weekends and during school holidays

As it was built for the 'warmer clime' market, I assume it's to keep the mechanicals protected from the sun? Presumably that assisted with engine cooling.

The AliExpress soundcard has been added and linked to the servo output on the Deltang Rx65c card. However, as you can see, there is very little variation in the engine note. I'll explore whether I can tweak the servo output range from the card to give greater variation.
