I was going to say that this looked very much like a Peter Butler project and then noticed it was you who posted it.
I think you might have needed to wallpaper it rather than trying to paint that livery, Peter.

Somewhere I have seen a colour illustration of that loco, so in theory it might be possible to copy and print 'wallpaper'? I still think it is a step too far to build one, and besides that, my Viceroy has retired!

This loco can be found at the Egyptian Railway Museum in Cairo.

Wonderful news that the loco survives today, I have read the article and will do more research on it now, so thank you for the information!
I still have doubts it will make an appearance in model form, but it is a definite maybe.

Found some info here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/TrainPorn/comm ... iceroy_of/
Three of these distinctive 2-2-4 locomotives were built in the late 1850s and early 1860s by Robert Stephenson & Co in Newcastle, each with a luxurious saloon mounted behind the footplate. According to a contemporary issue of the Newcastle Courant, “The exterior of the train is decorated with arabesque designs of black, white and gold, in the first style of art, from the designs of Mr Digby Wyatt”. One of them, known as the Pasha's train, can be admired today in the railway museum in Cairo.

On the subject of weird and wonderful Egyptian loco's, how about this one?

I found it on this site: https://egyptiangeographic.com/en/news/show/478

Plus on this link is a coach to go with the very ornate Pasha's loco seen previously: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/super-br ... ran-tahoun

There are some magnificent beasts there but finding a way to narrow gauge them to 2ft. might be a problem. Perhaps that's why I haven't tried before?

I guess that's sort of a secondary boiler on the top?

My guess is it's some kind of feedwater heater. If so, it's the biggest one I've ever seen.

Interesting, I did wonder why the upper tracks weren't in evidence.
