Time to build a railway...but where?

I think those long straight handbrakes, and the boxy design give these wagons a surprisingly modern look.

I ended up building three, because Philip sent me his prototype as well as the two wagons I'd planned - I don't know how many the FR had originally, but there are only two now! It's lovely to see one of them out and about on the FR's demonstration goods train, so quirky and different - not that the FR's goods wagons lack variety!

It's looking great Peter, looking forward to seeing it progress...

It is progressing quite nicely now, well I think so. I'm not a perfectionist when it comes to faithfully recreating a prototype, but I can appreciate the importance of certain elements, so the handbrake lever is now fitted....

Currently waiting for the weathering paint to dry before I give it an all-over dirty wash and final lacquer.

When I drew up this wagon for Andrew, he gave me the chassis dims, which from memory he measured from another wagon, so are probably not accurate for this particular vehicle.
However the footprint of my wagon is 118 x 64mm ie 7ft4 1/2" x 4ft 0"
My body measures at 32.55mm but I don't have a figure for the O/A height I'm afraid.

Sorry, missed this post! The real things (which I've yet to see) are built on 3T slate wagon chassis - so I measured up my model of one of those. But I don't know how accurate that is!

The weathering and dirty wash are now applied, a quick spray over with matt lacquer and some real coal dust glued into the corners and base of the wagon. Overall it has turned out better than anticipated and I'm satisfied with the result....

The recent post from Porterhouse models showing their 3D printed FR Coal Wagon with end doors inspired me to search the 'net for more details. I failed in that search but discovered the side tipper wagon on the way, so decided to build that instead. During the build, Porterhouse Models kindly shared their own photographs which greatly assisted me with the model, and for which I am most grateful. The finished wagon is shown in previous posts.
I immediately began to build the second type, the end-door wagon as previously mentioned. Again, Porterhouse Models came to the rescue with sufficient detail available from their own model, allowing me to create a 'near enough' representation of the wagon....

Mine doesn't have the wonderfully accurate detail included in their 3D printed model, and I don't have the benefit of dimensions, but is undoubtedly the same wagon.

These things keep popping up lately, or maybe I just notice them more since I built mine last month. (Speaking of comparing plasticard construction to 3d printing!) The way in which I constructed mine caused some detail to be lost in the hinges, and this really shows what I've been missing. Do the doors open on yours, or do they just look as if they could?

Thanks for the reminder, I recall seeing your wagon now. It would be a great start to add further detail if required, although possibly not as tough as an all printed version? Mine has fixed doors (unlike the Porterhouse model which appears to have opening doors). They go to a lot of trouble to make moving parts do their job, as with their L and B Crane, which is just amazing! I have set the doors at a slight angle to represent some wear from load pressure on them.
Before you ask, the brake doesn't work either!

I didn't notice that until you mentioned it - tiny things like that really make the difference.

Oh dear, your pictures Peter are showing me details I guessed at (wrongly) on mine, which are printed from Red Star’s drawings. Ah well, best not to look too closely!

The pair appear to be well matched both in size and finish, so I am well satisfied with the result.
I still have a collection of Letraset from my picture framing days, (about 45 years ago), and it is still useable....
