Public Use

Post by Nigel B » Tue Aug 29, 2023 7:46 pm

Hi
Hoping someone can help.
I’ve got the opportunity to run my Accucraft Leader and Maxitrak DG6 in public at an outdoor event in October. Headless Cross Community Orchard Apple Day (in Redditch, October the 7th) and I’m going to run apple haulage on a circle of track on a board. I may also run a Mamod stationary engine.
The loco’s boiler and gas tank certificates are dated 2015 and the lorry’s 2019. Are these still valid?
Both will be running in a roped off area, possibly up on hay bales, and I will be present the whole time. Any member of the public having a go will be supervised. If there’s anything else I should know please tell me!
Thanks in advance
Nigel

What societies are you in? - That gets you a little insurance.

£66 will get you 'event' cover from Magnet.

I am not so sure about running live steam on straw bales though? - You do have access to a fire extinguisher etc. I assume?

Thanks Phil
I’m in the 16mm Society. The bales will be underneath a board and overhung by it. I’ll stick a tarp on them as well
The orchard’s public liability insurance will cover it; we’re already insured for scything, wood carving, mowing and strimming and apple pulping anyway; apparently this comes under the heading of ‘event equipment’!

Membership of the 16mmNGA includes public liability insurance. It's documented here - https://www.16mm.org.uk/membership/memb ... insurance/.
That won't cover your lorry though!

Brilliant, thank you.
It’s a 16mm lorry owned by the FeckHallBahn…
