As part of my traineeship to gain my steam loco drivers qualifications I am now lighting up the fire and waiting for steam to be raised on the steam locos on some operating days.
A few pictures from this mornings work (0530 start)
Heating the cylinders and clearing them of condensate
Raising steam to operating pressure
Testing the safety valves
Train off to station to start the days running.

Good stuff, Graeme! Hope I live long enough to do the same at Woodford..
Nothing better than standing next to a gently warming engine on shed in the morning light, preferably with coffee in hand.
