After nearly 10 years into the garden railway, we felt much better to chop off 2 large trees right outside of the fence. They split easily during windy days and thus unsafe. And during the winter, a huge amount of leaves that damage the wood fence and of obviously we spent a lot of effort to clean around the railway every year. The wet leaves usually damage glue on the figures. The trees provided some shade but we could not grow any plants that need 6 hours of sunlight a day. From now on, we don't need to go around searching for shaded plants anymore. To get the shade, we installed an outdoor umbrella recently.

Totally understand the problems of a railway under trees. I spend many hours clearing soggy leaves from my track and trying to find plants that are happy in shade.
