Always encouraging to get some feedback. It'll probably be a wee while before I make another video. I've somewhat saturated my viewer over the past few weeks, and besides which the weather has turned so it looks like I'll have to get back into the workshop and finish off a few projects.

Thanks RodFWLR wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 8:15 am Of course when you think about it, they could never be paired with you Psion....Silly me. And the running of the trains has got to be far more interesting than just switching on a remote and letting the train run around or up and down the lines. I really do see the advantage of the system, unfortunately I wouldn't have the skills and the room to have something like yours mate.
The blog is brilliant as usual Rik.
No need to make it computerised. I started off with a dice and some punched cards and there's quite a few who shuffle and deal out cards representing their wagons. To my mind it makes running sessions a bit more interesting - but as Peter says, each to their own. As long as you can get a train or two running, it's all worthwhile....

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
All this talk of shunting operations and making up train loads has now got me looking at my layout to see what else, other than a railway station and the sugar mill complex, I can squeeze into the layout.
An interchange with a railway over in the next valley (off scene) that takes and delivers goods and gives the passenger train somewhere to run to perhaps?
I could integrate it with the line that is proposed to goes to the storage lines in the shed.
A third layout because you have to have build layouts don't you?

I'd keep it simple and just add a couple of sidings .....GAP wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 3:03 am All this talk of shunting operations and making up train loads has now got me looking at my layout to see what else, other than a railway station and the sugar mill complex, I can squeeze into the layout.

Thanks for the clarification, Rod. Having never seen the programme or read any of the books it meant nothing to me - other than the image it created...

Rik,
Glad I wasn't the only one who had no idea what it referred to, other than an imagined mental image!

From the few things I know about Game of Thrones I now have a very different mental image in my head...
Really interesting video Rik, thank you. All those ore trains are clearly what's making the money on the PLR, I think the passengers are just gonna have to be content to wait!
Inspired by your video, yesterday evening I dug out "Shuntomatic System 3000" (christened, tongue-in-cheekily I fear, by my children), my very analogue goods train generating system - more on that later in the year, I hope...
Andrew.
Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
I did say I was sorry for being "off topic" Rik. And in the program "Game of Thrones" there is an Ice Wall that is one of the main parts of the story. So I was just responding to Phil's comment mate. Still easy to make a mistake in not realising, if you haven't seen the series Rik. It is a very good program and one that is fascinating to watch because it is a strangely compelling series....
Warning though, if you do have a glance at it, you will be hooked....

Now that does sound intriguing - if also a bit Wallace and Grommit like

I might give it a try, but I suspect it will not appeal to my other half and so will only be able to watch it when she's not around ....

I too have never seen the TV show, but I'm hip 'n' withit, innit.
Actually I'm not (hip 'n' withit), but I have read the books some years ago. Never subscribed to a service showing the TV series.

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
Thats a shame Phil, you would like it i'am sure and anyone else too. I didn't think I would get in to it, because I generally don't like things that are franchised, but Anne has a Netflix subscription so hey oh, who cares, I didn't pay that's the thing....

Lovely Rik, positively bucolic. And it's the first time I've noticed that your passenger stock has some of the fanlights open - a little detail that just adds a realistic note.

Thanks chaps
I do look forward to seeing a forecast for at least two consecutive days of fine weather. May has been a bit of a washout until this last weekend.

Absolutely beautiful Rik. Lovely cameos through lush scenery, some, like mine, ready for a hair-cut after all the wet weather we have enjoyed!
Everything on you line is so well thought out to cater for your superb stock, each having a purpose to support the running of the railway.
You have mastered the various arts of creating a superb video, good story matched with fine stock in perfect environment, quiet yet informative narration and very comfortable sound balance. You should be in line for an award!

Foliage is a big bugbear. I prepared the railway on Saturday, including going round the whole line with an electric hedge trimmer, followed by shears and then secateurs. On Saturday, I went around again with shears and thought I'd cleared every possible strand of foliage. The filming took place on Sunday afternoon and Monday - by which time, as you can see, the foliage somehow still managed to infiltrate.
I think the problem is that when trimming, I'm viewing the track from above. It's only when I place the camera at ground level that the loose strands become visible.
My brother came up yesterday (Tuesday) and I ran a train round and round while we sat with mum in the garden having an aperitif before a postponed Christmas Lunch (thanks to Covid!). He suggested mounting a strimmer on a wagon ...... now there's a thought!
