Thanks Phillip, in hindsight I wish we did that as well at the other end, might still be able to do that but the space is tighter and to be honest I am in need of a break of rocks and cement and mixing and shoveling soil. It is soon time to get back to the Red Room and get on with the tender of my loco build. However I am already having thoughts of "Next time we will do this and that and include this and do it this way and longer and " but I slap myself a few times about the face, there will not be a next time, this little railway will be it.

Re: The Potters Orchid Railway
I just told MAM you like the tunnel, she liked that. I keep saying we are making a garden with a small railway in it, it will not be a scale model railway.

Re: The Potters Orchid Railway
After a day in the bike frame making workshop I sat down under the awning of the Pottery shed, tiredly contemplating the railway. MAM some time ago brought home a bag of slate chips from the evil empire's big green box. Bingo ! Off I went to get a tube of liquid nails from the workshop. Just the relaxing project I needed last night, finishing in the dark with one only glass of red. Bravo MAM for the bag of slate chips that have been waiting for 2 years.

Re: The Potters Orchid Railway
A wee test run of the video camera wagon last Sunday night. It is a rough video as I just turned it on and payed attention to the conversations with others and it was dark and one stall, to get the run with 12 axles steady and slow, 25-30 psi is best, but there was one stall, if the radius was greater all the better but... I oil the curves with light oil and that makes a noticeable difference and also a pre run wipe of the rail with a sponge scourer does wonders for smooth steady running but I did not do that last Sunday, I just hosed the track to remove garden soil and sugar cane mulch. The RC and plate work still to be done by MAM

Re: The Potters Orchid Railway
I take it that you were using the waterpump pliers to break/cut the slate, was that an easy process? I ask as I can see a whole host of possible construction projects on my railway, I have thought about this process before but have never actually carried out any experiments with slate.

Re: The Potters Orchid Railway
Slate is a really useful and durable construction material to use on our railways. I have used old roofing slates and slate chippings for a number of things including ..... Buffers.....
Water tower... Cattle dock.... Platform edging..... Paving slabs..... .
All of the above are cut to size with a wet tile cutter.
.
I started to build a castle using slate chippings, but that needs a lot more patience so was never finished, but the idea does work.....
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?

Re: The Potters Orchid Railway
Peter, your slate constructions was an inspiration for me to try it out and thus for time I have been wanting to make a start on the bag of chips MAM had her for some time. The build inside the box is a reminder. MAM does that as well with her pottery build recently which is yet to be fired.

Re: The Potters Orchid Railway
What a fabulous video that is, it's the first email I viewed on my laptop this morning and wow it blew me away so much I had to play it on the 55'' inch telly. The views are amazing and what a massive difference the front view makes. You have got to tell us how you managed that Dazza. Was MAM driving the loco also....
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant......

Re: The Potters Orchid Railway
Dazza great video, having watched the progress of the build it was fantastic to see it all "joined-up". From a technical perspective you have the swing on the camera just about spot on nicely following the curve of the track, but will good side views

Excellent video Dazza, the rock faces are just the best and the planting softens the harsh landscape beautifully. Very smooth running too. I can tell by your happy. smiling face (?) how much you enjoyed the ride!

Re: The Potters Orchid Railway
Thanks Peter, however I think there was some crud on camera wagon wheel, it sounds like a wheel flat spot , thud thud thud. I will do another video when I put the signals out. So many details to do to remove seams and holes and fill to be added and also the paper that is hanging from the tunnel roof at potters junction. There is much to do added to the list as one sees a different perspective from the train camera. As for my face, I was in operation contemplation mode and also tired from the weekends exertions. Is that excuse good enough :-)Peter Butler wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 10:38 am Excellent video Dazza, the rock faces are just the best and the planting softens the harsh landscape beautifully. Re: The Potters Orchid Railway
All simply a guess and a poke. The ply base is left overs from concrete form work (Shuttering in the UK ) and furniture pads underneath, scrap steel for the off set counter weight and the Whitworth screw that I found rummaging through the screw draws and cut to length. The cameras seem to be dirt cheap by my way of thinking, some times found for less than $50. All these cheap gadgets to my mind's reckoning is simply science fiction. I do feel a bit soiled, it is a bit of crass consumer consumption, but only once in a life time eh.
