Loco name-plates
Loco name-plates
Hello.
I am running a steam loco now and wondered if anybody knows how to keep the nameplate on I have used double-sided sticky tape but once the engine is hot it just slides off I'm unsure if super glue would fair better I didn't want to ruin the paintwork also I am not to keen on screwing the thing on. Thanks.

Re: Loco name-plates
Clear silicone works for me - best not to use super glue as if you ever sell it on the next owner won't be able to re-name it without a paint job too. Have a look on Tony Willmores excellent Rhos Helyg Locomotive Works website for MDC plates fitting instructions - it's really helpful. MDC plates are excellent too.
Re: Loco name-plates
Please, do not use glue! So-called SuperGlue creates so much heat during curing that it will create a paint blister. Epoxy has a bond to the paint stronger than the paint has to the metal. Removal of plates fixed with either will almost certainly cause paint damage.

Thanks for that. I can always rely on GRF.

Re: Loco name-plates
Very appropriate post having recently received plates (from another source), ordered in March, and received and returned due to poor workmanship in July (but that is another story). I was wondering about fixing, and had considered superglue, obviously I won't now.

Hey Jimmyb.
Was it Narrow Planet if it was I ordered in May and still am not in receipt. Heyho

Re: Loco name-plates
A timely warning! Just considering ordering a couple of sets.
I know these things are not quick, NP do wait for enough orders to fill a sheet for etching.
Perhaps another order would jolly things along?

Re: Loco name-plates
Last set of plates for myself were ordered from MDC on 7th July, and delivered on the 25th. And, of course, there is nothing to pay until they are delivered.

Re: Loco name-plates
Yes it was, and after returning (at my cost) due a very poor paint job (paint on the "non-painted" areas) though some areas had been cleaned, far from the quality I would expect for the price paid, and the time taken.
NP took my payment in March!!
Re: Loco name-plates
Didn't find a problem with Narrow Planet myself. I mislaid the first nameplates for my Billy. Got in touch with NP and within 5 days I had the replacements. Though I must add, they did have a sheet ready to go....

Re: Loco name-plates
Used Narrow Planet for years without any major issues. But then even I have to admit things have slowed down a lot recently not helped by lockdown shutting down their etchers! Normally very good finish and quality (just received a set for my Upnor Castle).
And before anyone starts, yes I did use to work with Narrow Planet but that ended over a year ago so......... All opinions on the matter are definitely my own!
