The Development of the WLR
Re: The Development of the WLR
Finally cleared the shed enough for the first run on WLR metals in about two years!

Re: The Development of the WLR
It's a fantastic engine. Cheddar incorporated features you don't see on most 16mm locos, cross tubed boiler, boiler pressure controlled gas valve, and springing, all built to battleship standard! The hinge mechanism for the cab roof is a work of art!
Hercules is fitted with a large gas tank and hand pump in the tender so I kept her in steam for about an hour in the end.
I'd like to get my hands on the other Cheddar locos eventually...

Re: The Development of the WLR
Looking good - that "Hercules" really is quite a loco! And yep, "Lady Anne" is sounding good. Are those John Rogers' old carriages sitting in the siding?
Just let me know re the weatherboarding, yours if you'd like it...
Cheers,
Andrew.

Re: The Development of the WLR
Had some friends to visit with their little lad on the weekend so had a big tidy up and got most of the currently operational fleet out. A good time was had by all! I've a thing for collecting locos...

Re: The Development of the WLR
Collared some help today to get stuck into a job that's wanted doing for ages - a coat of paint on the walls. Looks like a bomb has gone off in there now as everything had to be taken out of the shed and all of the signs taken down. I think you'll agree that this makes the space far more pleasant...

Are they radio controlled?
I did a fair bit of dinghy sailing in my younger days and have sometimes fancied the idea of getting back on the water, albeit in model form.

Yes, they are fitted with RC on the rudder and sail winch. Shall I send you some pictures? They're really lovely models, but my main interest is steam and I've far too many projects here - I've kept my steam boat fleet though!

Re: The Development of the WLR
Some lovely sailing boats. Dont think Iwould allowed to sail them on our garden ponds though. I like the idea of a steam launch though probably even less acceptable on the ponds.
The railway room does look brighter after its facelift.

Can anyone advise me how to compress an image to allow me to upload it here? The images directly from my phone are always too big so I tend to upload to Facebook, then save from there which normally does a good enough job of the compression, but today that seems not to be enough!
I don't want to use Photobucket or some other hosting site as that's just frustrating!

Re: The Development of the WLR
Thank you - it must be something to do with the recent update to Facebook - rooting back through some images I have posted on here before, the sizes of the files (same camera phone) are an order of 10 smaller.tom_tom_go wrote: βTue Aug 25, 2020 10:46 pm https://gardenrails.org/forum/viewtopic ... 33&t=11543

If it's of any use to you, I find FastStone Photo Resizer to be very quick and easy; plus it's free. That reads like an advertisement..
It remembers the output resolution, so each time I use it, I needn't fiddle with any settings.

Aaron

I use Snapseed has recommended by Tom and it is easy.
I also use Image Converter, which is free and very easy also, but a tad more complex. Saying that, it gives you the ability to compress lots of photos at once, where has with Snapseed, you can only do one at a time.

Found that by sending the photos in a message to myself on Facebook, they were compressed enough to upload.
I'm trying to bulk out the 'village' with quick to build buildings as I do not enjoy building houses or shops when compared to working scenery like the coal mine.
Laser cut shell...
I had a tin of paint that had been accidentally left outside for a couple of winters and I think had been frosted which led to it being full of lumps which gave a good rough finish.
A coat of paint and further detailing. It's called the Iron Bridge as it looks out over the bridge across the access door on the railway.
In place on the line...
A bit of planning for the next few buildings in card.

Nicely done..... indoor modelling allows you to use materials which wouldn't withstand outdoor conditions and you have made good use of them. The proposed buildings alongside will add to the variety of styles found in most street scenes.
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
