Time for another update:
When I started in G scale back in 2012 I had a dream of a nice long sprawling yard with lots of shunting and operating opportunities but unfortunately being only 14 at the time I didn't really have the skills or the money to make that a reality. Now that I'm older its a bit easier to invest in some track and convince the parents that these things are a good idea and thus with their blessing Hastings was born.
Hastings is the NEVR's only real access to a port (Melbourne was already too congested for port access by the time the system had grown large enough to warrant it) Hastings will eventually get a two track saw tooth workshop, an island platform, electrification along the back road a proper two story signal box and a long corrugated iron wharf shed that will hide the rear mainline and cover 1 road in the dock.
The NEVR System. Hastings is at the very bottom in the bay with the Island in it. In the real world its home to Esso and Bluescope Steel (BHP) who both have plants there.
A relative works in a tool store and when they moved their shelving went in the bin. With some welding and cutting I was able to make all the framing for nothing from their scrap.

The railway was designed to run on a timetable with designated shunters at certain stations and staff working so now this stations finished it wont be long before we can have our first session.

Last week the yard had its first visitor, heres a quick teaser for next time...

Glad to see a dream you had finally coming together Jake. Looks really good, and from your test run at night with the lead light I imagine night running in the future might be a lot of fun. Enjoy your "track testing".

I'm very lucky to have forum member Melbournesparks live a few streets away (A scale 31km to be exact) and thus the other day we christened the new yard.
All photos are his as is all the rollingstock (except the DH and the SAR ON wagon) always a pleasure to see his handiwork
The tramways new diesel electric pulling into the station after rolling off the branchline also attached to the rear of the train is one of the NEVR's EMD G8 diesels, the tramway was performing the transfer in exchange for some surplus ex WAGR frieght wagons The DE detaches from the consist and prepares to run around to shunt the T off the train Another quick job before we kicked it off was to finally tape up the DH and give it its stripes. Ill fit the window frames and Cab interior this weekend along with glazing Having been given the green it rolls onto its next shunt

Great pictures, thank you. Good work on the extension too.
I love the idea of realistic working with shunters at the various stations etc and "proper" traffic flows - let us know how your first session goes!

Couple of pictures from last weekends running showing some new arrivals
Prototype Aluminium container wagon. Built from offcuts of aluminium from bunnings with 3d printed bogies im hoping to build half a dozen of these to run as the bulk of the wagon fleet when running "modern day" operating sessions
The stalwart MM is on an down log train crossing one of the Porter saddle tanks shunting

New QR F wagon. unpainted and glued together no other preparation this ones straight off the printer! this is the second of 5 so far. there will be more but ive run out of Binnie wheels so more wagons will be waiting on another order of those to come in.
WAGR R open wagon. this ones made out of seconds parts but actually turned out quite nice it'll get a tarp and some proper bogies and couplers in due course
I currently have a friends locos in for some work after he had some RC problems so the chance was taken to photograph his loco with the two resident NEVR Porters at the new yard

Just getting back into the swing of posting on here. I havent been able to go down to the heritage railway so there has been some work happening on the railway. I've been waiting on a shipment of corflute to start constructing buildings so I've been working on rollingstock instead. here are some pics from the last few weeks.
E1 enjoying its first run in quite a while. This might be the only time a photo of it even appears in the wharf area as this area wont be getting overhead/ The big Barclay marshalling a train The DH ready to depart with the assembled train. The train parked up at the top of the line showing the selection of Australian rollingstock that we've been cultivating for the last few months. I think we're up to about 15 pieces of Australian Narrow gauge rollingstock now which is more then enough to run an operating session. A disposal program from the LGB stock I bought that was "near enough" will be starting soon! I continued running until late into the night. The line that runs around the water tank to the workshop will come off that track to the far left stretching into the darkness... The SAR ON wagon also received a coat of NEVR red, Lettering stencils are in production currently hopefully these wagons will look less naked soon. Another new project that I've recently completed to running point is this Emu Bay Railway C wagon. They use Binnie wheels and ill hopefully be selling them and their Meat van variant for around the $35 AUD mark. Ill be making a post about that later. These tiny wagons had a wheelbase that is a lot smaller then some modern bogies! Pictured here next to a display bogie for Fyansfords D1 its pretty miniscule and pictured next to a WAGR D van Another project was this 1880's SAR guards van. Built to fit onto the bachmann caboose chassies this ones the prototype They survived on the Port Lincoln division until the 1960's and one still survives at Pichi Richi in the "one day" shed Sitting on the quickly hacked chassies it still needs some more cleaning up and more detail but theres potential there. Ill also be selling these slightly lengthened so they just drop onto the chassies instead of having to chop them down in length slightly. Last ones a teaser of sorts. Fyansford #6 a 1903 Hudswell Clarke...

Thanks Grant its going to be the go coming into Summer i think will be good to shunt trains with a cold beverage in hand, just need to improve the lighting down there.
the ol block of Hebel certainly gets a workout it'd be nice to have a dedicated spray booth but rattle cans and mother nature is all the line can afford

I've achieved almost nothing physical the last few months but theres definitely been a fair chunk of CAD work completed especially after seeing some of the fantastic models that have been coming out of this forum.
Hope everyones doing well.
Fyansford D1 (EMD Standard G8 Built to haul limestone at a local cement works) is coming along. I'm on Mk.3 of the side frames and I think there'll be a Mk.4 before the next one is completed. They'll be powered by Piko 218 motor blocks with Deltang Rx65's for control. Im really hoping to figure out a sound card I can use on battery power that'll give me authentic 8 cylinder EMD 567 sounds with notching up but we'll see.
From behind. after some misprinting on the front side I decided the headlights and marker lights will be a separately added detail. You can see the holes for the 3mm LED in the wall though
The Fyansford lowloader also got to the point where it could be towed around. Amazingly it goes through my R3 pointwork
New recievers have arrived from Micron so #4 will get its roof and will also run for a bit until I get enough interest back to finish it off and detail the cab
A selection of Emu Bay railway wagons! the one on the far right was the original made as a fathers day gift and on the far left is the production version now available from my facebook page "North East works" in two, three, four and meat van variants
Now that I've got the Barclay to the point where its usable as my big steam power I decided to start on my first large Australian locomotive. I had plans to start with the Silverton A class but theres some engineering difficulties I have to remedy first so the M class it was. For our English friends you have repatriated M10 (M2 originally) at the Tanfield railway. Ive never really understood why given its 3' 6" gauge but there you go!
I talked about doing this on another forum but I have a particular affinity for the TGR X classes being the first mainline diesels in Australia. Ive spent a bit of time in the cab of these now as train crew and a little bit of time working on them and this is the embryo of X20, X3 will come later!
