The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)
Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)
Thanks Rob - it's always a pleasure to see pictures of your line. The carriages will look great running together.
You've inspired me to do a little clearance work and maybe run a train myself...
Cheers,
Andrew.

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)
Thanks Andrew, I’m hoping so. Over time they’ll have some of their Americanisms toned down some more but for now the paint job will do.
Enjoy getting out there!
To be honest, so do I.
I’ve actually run out of the grey paint that I used on the brake, so I was going to use another that I have in that’s a similar shade but Matt instead of satin. I was also going to do the roof with a darker grey colour. I’ll do that today and see how it feels.

Getting there!
Please excuse the loose wire, I haven’t put everything back together properly yet...
I’ve also added a small piece of chain across the gap in the railings on the guards balcony. All other balconies will now be fitted the same way.
Still to come, vacuum bags on the saloon car, vacuum cylinders underneath (in order from brandbright), lamp irons on the outer ends of the set and reinstate the lights on both cars.

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)
Thanks Andrew!
There’s a few things I’m not 100% happy with, the roof being the main one. The masking tape I used wasn’t my usual choice, and there’s a bit of bleeding on the clerestory and I’m not convinced by the colour. These were always intended to be tinkered with so I’m not bothered about changing things in the future
I managed to fit the lamp irons this evening...
Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)
Great paint job, I like the darker brown roof of the top pics. the livery gives them a very V. R. look when ours were carriage red and moonstone.

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)
Thanks Grant. It’s also similar to SAR/SAS livery, which is what I based my 009 carriages on. Its a very attractive livery in my eyes. The idea behind these is that they were built for an antipodean railway by a British builder, but never delivered. The railway bought them at a bargain price, however the locals didn’t particularly like them and the loco crews complained they were too heavy. The directors did like the livery though and adopted it as the railways standard coach livery for all future builds.
Once this whole pandemic is over I’ll give the second roof a repaint again with a lighter grey I think. I’m not too keen on the black. I think I need to find a happy medium between the two colours.
Oh and I’m still cleaning bl**dy masking tape off too, so I’ll be going back to my preferred Tamiya I’m future.
Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)
The two tone stands out really well, new here, and I couldn’t see what your base model is, it looks like a Bachmann, hope lam not insulting you
Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)
Gee!! I can't have been properly awake, sorry didn't notice the roof is actually black. My favourite roof colour was Humbrol Brown Bess, about the colour of milk chocolate. I have to mix it now as humbrol is all over the place with colours.

Glad you kept the colour Rob. The roof looks great in black. Can we have a video if possible mate.

Not at all! The fact that you don’t recognise them is a good sign I think! They are indeed Bachmann ones. I’d have preferred the LGB ones but the price difference (when you consider I was going to be messing around with them) couldn’t be justified.
I hadn’t even thought of using a brown! Considering I have pictures of yours saved on my phone you’d think I’d have noticed!
The red was always a certainty, I wasn’t sure whether to leave it all over red this time. I’m glad I made the effort to paint the grey though.
I’m sure I can sort a video out
Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)
Looks great, Rob. I like the details such as the chain, lamp hook and lamp. Nice touches!

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)
Thanks Rod! The more I see them the more happy I am with them.
Took a couple of shots today during a quick running session after I’d finished a couple of jobs;
All quiet at Top-End;
Oh hang on... what’s that in the distance?
I’ve been trying to find some new angles;
Of course, not everything goes to plan;
One of the jobs completed today was painting white walls on the tyres of the JS cars. They’re newly overhauled so why not?!
Thanks for looking!

Well, you did say you were looking for new angles!
I really like some of those low level shots, particularly the one of the timber wagon and green carriage...
Cheers,
Andrew.

Thanks Guys!
As part of an ongoing drive to improve safety and standards, the CLR S&T department have today installed a home signal at Charlwood station. Similar installations will follow at Top-End.
