Sadly, this former member realised he was the only one at the time into the larger scales.

My fault, I saw a new post on the subject and had not realized how old the previous post was. Something to be said for not reviving old posts!

Hello, i am still here (occasional lurker).
I have been keeping a thread over on ngrm, but that is primarily small scale (and indoor!) forum.
I can give some updates if people here are interested - feels like there might be a couple more "ride on" sized modellers here now...
A taster of progress on the new railway:

Good to hear from you!
Is that a 7 1/4" gauge 'Wren' you have now?
I got into 5" gauge last year so I would like to hear more from you as one day I would like to build a garden railway (next house move).

Yep, the wren is the new "pride of the line". Commissioned from a friend (who is a professional loco builder), with some input from me (mostly painting) - it is still running in at the moment, but is a lovely thing to run.

I will give a bit of a summary when I get a chance to write it up.
Maybe a new thread would be more appropriate?
Edit: hang on, looks like I have forgotten how to link flickr images.....

SRS currently have a 'Wren' for sale, very tempting but my club track does not have a 7 1/4" gauge line (it is in the plans though):

New thread sounds good.
I am currently commissioning a 5" gauge 0-6-0 'Sweet Pea' if you want to have a read:

They are a very nice size engine, plenty of power but not too heavy (around 150kg). Copper boiler as well, so easier on boiler testing (the one on SRS is a very good price too - much cheaper than a new build)
I am struggling with the images - how do I embed from flickr?

That's a manageable weight, my trolley can take 300kg.
I am not familiar with using Flickr, however, I found this:

The IMG tags used in the forum work with a file extension only (jpg, png, etc) so the image link must contain this.
BAD:

GOOD:

That's a pain - looks like the bbcode and .jpg links are only accessible via the desktop website, not the app

That Wren looks like a lively little beast. Presumably the small driving wheels give her a lot of acceleration?

The Wren certainly has a full head of steam. Is the rail section in the video steel? Looks very nice.

Great to hear from you again. Quite enjoyed seeing your old line over my years as a lurker here. Having had my start in steam on the 7¼" years ago, It's nice to see it here on the forum. The term "garden railway" seemingly covers all gauges, after all.

Thanks for the encouraging comments
I will get a new thread started once I figure out a practical way of posting the (many) pictures I already have on flickr.
Yes, the rail is all steel. 25mm tall section from the miniature railway supply co. I never liked how the alloy rail always stood out in the garden, the steel weathers in very quickly, and gives more grip. About the right size to represent 30lb/yard in 4" scale.
The wren is a very easy loco to drive, good power and traction so does accelerate a train quickly. Steam passages are fairly small though so it doesn't run away. It is all still fairly tight, so should run better and better as it runs in.

Looking forward to hearing from you, we need more larger scale members!

Success!
After some googling i can now get to bbcode on Flickr
(There is actually a simple trick - don't use the app, then switch to "desktop" in browser settings. This forces the proper flickr site to appear, which has the codes)

It's a shame in the app they don't give you the code to be able to embed into a page but I am glad you found a way.
Looking forward to updates!
