Brian Dominic
Brian Dominic
I heard today that Brian Dominic, on here as MDLR, is seriously ill in Royal Derby Hospital being overwelmed by an untreatable infection.
Very sad news.

Re: Brian Dominic
Very sad news indeed,
Brian always seemed ready to give encouragement to fellow modellers.
Best wishes, hope you get well again Brian,
Grant.

Re: Brian Dominic
A post on the 16mm association facebook page from David Hippey states that Brian passed away this morning (Saturday). RIP.

Very sad news indeed. Nice guy. I remember when his railway got destroyed (twice) by low lives stealing the track presumably to sell for scrap. He was very philosophical

I'm very sorry to hear that - Rest in Peace, Brian...
Re: Brian Dominic
I only had the pleasure of meeting Brian just the once . It was at the West Midlands Group G Scale Society show at Solihull in Feb 2018. He was there with Flagg Fluorspar and I chatted to him several times during my visit. His energy and enthusiasm was very evident. He seemed to be having fun with his trains and his demonstrations of minimum space modelling and what was possible on a meagre budget really struck a chord with me as that was what I was doing at the time albeit in Gn15 a slightly smaller scale and gauge.
Roll on 18+ months β and I'm thinking of a new project β I've acquired a SM32 Micro layout and a few items of stock, I have plans to build some more and extend the layout but not really sure what I'm doing or where I'm heading.
Then fate intervenes. One night in late September 2019, while trawing through T'interweb I find this forum (Garden Railway Forum) and start reading. Lo and behold the first post I read is by Brian. I signed up almost immediately. Next day I took out a subscription to Garden Railways Magazine. Then while looking at the 16mm Association website and found some more articles by Brian on there. I'm hooked, I've joined the 16mm Association as well.
So Thanks You very much Brian. I probably would never have thought about modelling in 16mm scale if we hadn't chatted on that Saturday in Solihull.
And I never did ask about the Camel...

Re: Brian Dominic
This is most unwelcome and shocking news. I only ever spoke to Brian once - at a show - but I've followed his work as shown in SMT, Garden Rail and here online, because I really enjoyed his focus on simple inexpensive kits, and his enthusiasm and delight in them was so inspiring. He seemed genuinely committed to showing that it is a hobby for anyone and it'll be the poorer for his absence.

I am very shocked at his loss a great supporter of all things 16mm, Super sense of humour and he even sold a loco to me. I will miss him.
Re: Brian Dominic
Whenever Brian had anything to say, he always did with encouragement. He is going to be missed by so many.
