Photos with cardboard cut-outs
I like playing around with pictures of my train, making them as realistic as possible.
One trick I have been playing with is to use cardboard cutouts in the pictures, to add detail that does not exist.
In this example the charabanc in the background is a picture off the web, printed out on my home computer, glued to cardboard.
This one shows Pauline and me (supposedly) waiting at Ti-tree station. We are cut from a commercially printed photo. The better quality shows. and the actual cutout from a family pic.
Something to do on a rainy day - searching through old photos for suitable subjects!

Excellent idea and very well executed.

Looks good fun. I remember someone using suitable photo cutouts placed in coaches. The restriction of viewing angle means it is not so obvious they are just cutouts as the train goes along. They could also be placed inside buildings were the viewing angle would be similarly restricted.

Brilliant. The high quality of the modelling is shown by how well the images blend.
Watch out you don't slip on that moss on the platform though - it looks treacherous!

Moss? MOSS? The dedicated gardeners at Ti-tree will be most offended. That Sir, is manicured grass.
Thanks for the nice comments anyhow.
Here's a few more quick attempts. It's obvious that using my home printer is not going to give as good results as getting them printed. And it's very hard to get good focus, especially indoors.
Now which esteemed member of this Forum can this be, hitching a cab ride?
I always wanted to ride a Garratt
But I had to settle for the little shunter
This poor soul is consulting a timetable! On the SaTR?? some hope.

I dont think you need to worry about the focus. The cutouts are far more detailed than the available figures. It could well end up as though you also had a twin brother with cutouts in two locos.

Great idea, I love the last shot, the figure just fools your brain into thinking its a 12" to the foot picture.

A good point Don. I'm having fun anyhow. I was hoping a back view would be easier than faces and it seemed to work.
That one of Lilyvale turned out really well. (despite the wind that kept blowing him over.)BorisSpencer wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 9:51 am Great idea, I love the last shot, the figure just fools your brain into thinking its a 12" to the foot picture.
Seems there is lots of luck involved in composing the pic. I think another figure in the door or room would add to the scene.
My next experiments will be seated figures.

Re: Photos with cardboard cut-outs
I am not having much success with a seated cutout figure.
So I changed tack - since the SaTR is supposed to be in the 1950s, I thought that a pic of me and my Dad would be nice to recreate. By the magic of time travel, my future wife is seated looking on from the future.
