That would be a great educational tool for trainee civil engineers and architects.

Well I thought some of the things that we do with garden railways is a bit OTT but this really beats anything that I have seen.
Reminds me in some respects of me as a child with "Brickplayer" used to drive my mother mad with the mess I made with the wallpaper paste type cement that it used. Anyone else here remember it?

Yes, I do! I saw the start of this thread last night but didn't have time to say what you've just written. Came on to do it now and saw that you've beaten me to it!

I think it's superb...
Just think of all the possible builds you could do, far better than Plasticard or foam board. Why, because it's far more realistic.....

Shoddy workmanship which wouldn't survive a single UK winter.

Interesting comment Peter and one I don't disagree with. My own thoughts when I watched it were two-fold and along the same lines.:Peter Butler wrote: βWed Jul 17, 2019 10:35 pm Shoddy workmanship which wouldn't survive a single UK winter.
1) There were only single skin brick walls, no cavities and certainly no cavity insulation, so it would not come near complying with Building Regs.
2) The whole construction method with cast concrete framework, no insulated floors, hollow bricks and external render, diagonally laid bricks in the internal walls, the forest of T-shaped wooden props for supporting the upper floor during construction, the half round roof tiles, all put me instantly in mind of building sites I've seen in Egypt.

It's a model isn't it.......why would it need insulation.......

Oh no I'm not!!!!!
Now you have up-scaled Tom, this is about correct size for you..... try it and let us know how it withstands wet and frosty conditions, you will see what we mean.

No, not in extreme conditions, but at least I can carry them without risking either hernia or having them fall apart!tom_tom_go wrote: βThu Jul 18, 2019 12:31 pm Do you keep your buildings outside all year round then?

pfffft! real men use wattle and daub...
It actually looks quite French to me (not a reference to the quality, but the concrete frame with brick infill and the use of brick-type panels for the floor and the roman tiles). From the brief bit I've seen, the rebar looks a bit shonky, but that might be limitations of scale. I've always wanted some of the brick builder kits but never got around to it. I think a frame would be too susceptible to ground movement to leave out (Unless you built a very non-scale raft for it to sit on). But a smaller conventional brick structure with double-skin brick and ties might work nicely. Terracotta would weather nicely too.
We're putting up a couple of towers at work - concrete core and and walls, curtain wall system. So, say 3m per floor, which at 16mm/ft gives c150mm per floor, a 20 storey block would be 3m tall. wonder if I can persuade the cladders to do me a scale set of cladding... Anyone got a teeny augur piling rig I can borrow...

Well making a working 16mm pile driver would be a novel project.
If you do fancy doing some 16mm Bricklaying these people do offer 1:19 Bricks. I look forward to having a go but I have too much 305mm:1ft work to complete first.
