Well I opened one of my Accucraft open wagon boxes yesterday to find that somehow one of the chopper couplings had been broken in the box, just the chopper snapped off. Not sure if anyone else has had this before, but I thought I would post up my fix.
I was going to buy a new set of couplings and replace it, simple. But hold on, I am supposed to be making my own things these days so I had a go. I took an off cut of 2mm brass sheet left over from the last build draw around the old chopper and set to it with hack saw and files. A short while later I had something that I was I was happy it resembled the original. A bit of black paint later and hey presto, fixed. I would have then put a small bit of brass in the lathe, made a spacer and soldered it on, but as I have no lathe at the moment, a bit of fuel tube as a spacer works perfectly for now.
I found this in the bottom of the box
So I fettled this
The new...
The original on the other end of the wagon...

Re: Broken Accucraft Chopper Coupling
Looks fine, and no doubt stronger than the original.
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?

Re: Broken Accucraft Chopper Coupling
Indeed you are correct, the originals are made of "crap" metal, almost feels like white metal it's so brittle. The new one is very strong and sturdy
