I totally approve of your colour scheme, my own passenger stock is Wedgewood over Ivory.
I don't know what they thought in Halfords when I spent 20 minutes dithering in the paint isle, and then only came away with 3 rattle cans!

VERY nice! You've achieved a great finish. And the choice of colour scheme surely betrays a Skarloey Railway influence?!
All the best,
Andrew.

I agree with Peter, Rik, BorisSpencer and Andrew. Great build and the colour scheme is wonderful. Nice bright colours.

By the way, those holidays look like you had a great time, although the India one would of been my preferred one. Don't like snow, .. ..Far too cold for me....

Re: My first railway - The Westmorland Light Railway
Apologies all for being useless at chronicling my garden railway adventures, cant believe it been a year since I last posted. Lots of planning has gone into the outdoor element but no ground works yet, still had to keep the boss happy with DIY projects, so the bathroom was completed and two redecorated bedrooms. But there has been more then a few motive and stock projects started and half completed. So I will start with some updates to them.
my guards coach has been completed (and prep work started on its two friends)
Some light electronic work conducted
Then the completed people added
I'm rather happy with my complete carriage, just need to decide if i'm now going to give the roof a canvass look covering and get the decals sorted for 1st class and guards compartment and maybe design a logo for my railway, I think the space on the cupulas would be finished nicely with one

Very nice Howie, well done.
Looking forward to seeing them running one day.

Lighting looks good, as indeed does the whole coach.

Like the light in the coach and the people look just right. Love the colour scheme too.

Re: My first railway - The Westmorland Light Railway
Thank you all for the kind words. I really enjoyed getting back into modeling. The way the coach turned out spurred me onto more.
The next project was inspired by the trip to the snow. A swift16 plow was bought. The guards wagon I had built ended up with a chassis warp and just to finish things I knocked it off the table damaging it. So it became the perfect donor.
It clearly needs a dust off and having looked at the picture i've still got some bits to fettle and the plow element is begging to get weathered in.

Re: My first railway - The Westmorland Light Railway
The railways first piece of motive stock has also progressed, it would have been motoring along on it own power however when I did the fit of the rctrains receiver, the running gear was slightly out of time and bound up, I decided in the best traditions of British engineering the solution would only be reached with a cup of tea, however on my return the receiver was smoking and red hot. I had left the power on with it all bound up and cooked the receiver. It wouldn't have been an issue but deltang stocks have been none existent since to seek a replacement.
The eagle eyed will spot the upside down louvre at the front, I didn't notice until I had painted it. I thought I would rather live with the upside down panel then the mess I would have made trying to fix it Things very nearly complete. I have filled the front gear box and driver console with lead shot, it a rather heavy little loco for its size, I hope when I get it to run it will have some pulling power with the extra traction I hope it gives.
and the very start of some weathering, its a rough reconditioned / reengineered loco. but it will still be a dirty and abused daily worker, not a museum piece. Still some way to get it how I want

Re: My first railway - The Westmorland Light Railway
Looks great! I imagine all that extra weight low down will definitely help with traction & stable running.
Re: My first railway - The Westmorland Light Railway
Agree, very nice loco.

Re: My first railway - The Westmorland Light Railway
The next project, but as you guessed not finished (there is definitely a reoccurring theme developing) was the replacement guards van, this time I went in passenger livery not freight grey, I thought until some form of more advanced train breaking was brought in on the railway a guard operated break at each end would allow just the loco to run around and not have to try and shunt the railways only passenger / guard carriage around each time. I want to tidy up my wiring a bit then roof and accessories can be added

Very smart - and the lighting looks excellent!

Re: My first railway - The Westmorland Light Railway
Next was a bored wet weekend off work (and the first recent project i've actually completed) Its an IP Engineering wagon, and one of the very few private wagons the WLR has. With Express Dairies being up at Appleby I thought they would have been supportive of the railway, bringing milk churns to the mainline to go up to them. This wagon is from slightly later in the railways working life, the internet seems sparse on dates in relation to the opening of the Appleby depot, I would suggest the early 1930's would be my time span here. I thought it bring a bit of diversity to the stock.

My kind of wagon, it looks used!

Nice weathering job, nice wagon.

Re: My first railway - The Westmorland Light Railway
I remember Express Dairies. I used to have a milk round job with a milkman when I was still at school. My Dad also bought a couple of them for us to mess about on in his yard. When they broke down he got the batteries out for the lead and scrapped the bodies.
Nice wagon by the way, the paint job looks brill.

Re: My first railway - The Westmorland Light Railway
Just catching up with this thread. That Baldwin looks excellent! Sorely tempted to get a PDF kit but I really do have more than enough locos (I keep telling myself)!!
I agree with what's been said already about the wagon. It does look brilliant - as if it's been in service for years!!!
